I've been following Joey since he took his first coaching job in high school and he has had nothing but success whereever he has been. His team now at South Alabama is  making some waves by playing some big name programs and representing themselves very well. He has quietly built a good program at South Alabama and surely some of the major schools are taking notice.

I think it will happen in the very near future. ;)

did he say something that would make one think he wanted to move up ?

Southern Miss surely needs some help.  That might be a small stepping stone for him.

Good question. I have thought he may take an assistant job at a big school but it looks like he is waiting on HC job. A lot of big schools are hiring top assistants now. In the SEC UF, UGA, Miss St, Vandy and UK all hired assistants with no HC experience. Ole Miss and the barn both hired former assistants that had limited HC experience.

HL is right Southern Miss needs to do something to turn their program around.

I am a Joey Jones fan. If you have not read his book he wrote many years ago it is a good read. It is named "In Good Hands". It is about his time at Alabama. He was recruited and played for Bear Bryant right before he retired. He was there for the transition to Ray Perkins. As an undersized player he had to prove himself all over again.

No not at all, I was just wondering why his name hasn't been on any lists where programs aren't doing so well.

Mark had him on the radio show and it was supposed to be
for a hour , it ran more like 1.5 hours

all Joey talked about is how he is a hometown boy and
loves it at south and wants to build the program in DI
bowl games a such , loves Mobile

yea' I know "coach speak" but Joey ?

went to the same high school as Joey
we had the same football coaches , teachers , friends
one of my best friends wives is Joey's secretary at USA
we had lunch yesterday

I'm not going to ask Joey straight out
but you bet I'll ask others on the DL of course   :unsure:

I think Joey would make a great coach at most any DI college
do I want him to leave ? heck no !
will he ? maybe . but if he does it will be 100% on the up and up
does he deserve it ? absolutely .

maybe down the road a ways , I just don't see right now  :dunno:
 

I don't know that he would ever want to leave and couldn't blame him if he didn't because of his happiness. I just thought his name should have been out there on some lists already because of his coaching success so far.

but I also know you are somewhat connected and thought you may
have some info that wasn't public knowledge .

he just hired Coach Freddie Roach , moved him here
and has made some great choices on his staff .
I haven't talked to Freddie in past few weeks but the last
time I did everything was great ...

I thank Joe G. for getting Joey down here , hate he retired from USA

some of you may not know but Joey committed to FSU originally
then later change his interest to Alabama after some really good advice .

I didn't know about FSU.  To this day, my game day jersey is still #4.  All the band wagon fans assume it's for Marquis Maze, Mark Barron, T. J. Yeldon, or even Prothro, but I was wearing #4 before those pups were ever born.

he got #4 at Alabama , but he wore #28 at Murphy High

I will never forget that Penn State game.  As a young kid I knew that was a TD because #4 was standing right there and he raised his hands and said it was a TD.

I believe that is correct.  It was very disappointing to me because it was the first time I ever saw grown ups cheating.

I also noticed that Walter Lewis is wearing AJ's number.  :lol:

Unless he repacled CNS at Bama, then NOOOOOOOO!!! Joey is doing such a great job at South. I would hate for my second favorite school to lose him, but I think it is inevitable.

when I was doing the WNSP SEC Tailgaters show he used to cater it sometimes

Dude, stop it. I now have a hankering for Wintzell's cheese grits and grilled shrimp.

Yuck!  First and last time I ate at Wintzell's the waitress brought my drink and honest, there was a piece of paper from a drinking straw floating in it... Haven't and won't be back...

The Wintzells here in P'cola opened and closed within a year.

The Wintzells in Decatur seems to stay busy. We eat there occasionally but there are better seafood places in town.

The one I went to is in Huntsville.

NALT, you need to try the original one in downtown Mobile (Dauphin Street). Good stuff. I wouldn't go to any of the others. Its kind of like Dreamland for me. The original in Tuscaloosa is awesome, but the one in Mobile was awful.

grew up with the Wintzells
went to school and hung out up through the end High School

back then they only had one store
we used to go there and eat a lot after school and whatnot

always got good food and service , and a great price
being with the owners son might have helped with that  :dunno: :lol2:

haven't been in a good while , sorry to hear of the bad experience
not much worse than going out to eat and it's an awful time ...  

It was actually worse still.  A co-worker with my group asked for water to drink.  Her glass of water actually smelled badly...she won't go back either...

I've had bad experiences and believe me I feel for ya'll

the only one I've ever been to is the one cb spoke of though ...
