And he's been a better team player than either of them! :-* Those are three pretty good names in Bama football that will never be forgotten. Those are some amazing stats by McCarron. I just wonder how much coaching he does in daily practices for his backups, I think that would be very interesting to listen to and watch. And he's been a better team player than either of them! :-* AJ is pretty good if you have to go back nearly 50 years to find someone to compare him to. I think Jay Barker fits in the conversation. He was labeled a "game manager" but when the game was on the line he had incredible stats. He was 35-2-1 as a starter and won the Johhnny Unitas Award as a senior. He was invited to NY for the Heisman Trophy and came in 4th I think. It will really be sad to see him, CJ, Steen and many others leave after this year. AJ has never been a flashy guy, but you can't argue with results. He will have stats that most likely won't be broken in our lifetime. If he leads Bama to another NC this year, it would be very hard not to consider him the best ever at Bama, and one of the best ever in college football.

I will always think upon him favorably, though, for the near impossible comeback that he orchestrated against the barn in '85 that led to Van Tiffin's 52 yd FG. Stabler is in that group even though he didn't win a national championship because they were undefeated and were robbed by the polls. I would put Shula in a 3rd group, along with Brody Croyle, Walter Lewis, Freddie Kitchens, John Parker Wilson, and a ton of others. I was thinking of Pat during the Tennessee game; how much faith CNS has in AJ, like Coach Bryant did in Pat. Those Coach-QB relationships can be very special. AJ and Coach Saban have such!
