Look at me!' tearing their shirts open, and AJ's going around telling guys they made a great catch." Thompson added: "AJ's going to go down in Alabama history as doing things that nobody will ever do again." McCarron already has thrown more touchdown passes than any player in Crimson Tide history, he'll probably set the school record for career passing yardage in Alabama's next game - a Nov. 9 contest against LSU - and he's likely to end his senior season as the hardest QB to intercept in SEC - and maybe NCAA -- history... AJ won't make us forget Namath and Stabler, but he's the best we've had since them. And he's been a better team player than either of them! :-* Title: Re: "Assistant coach Lance Thompson on Alabama's quarterback: 'AJ's special'" Post by: Jamos on October 29, 2013, 07:17:17 AM Quote "He's a team-first guy in an era where top players are saying, 'Look at me! I just wonder how much coaching he does in daily practices for his backups, I think that would be very interesting to listen to and watch. He was labeled a "game manager" but when the game was on the line he had incredible stats. He was 35-2-1 as a starter and won the Johhnny Unitas Award as a senior. He was invited to NY for the Heisman Trophy and came in 4th I think. It will really be sad to see him, CJ, Steen and many others leave after this year. AJ has never been a flashy guy, but you can't argue with results. He will have stats that most likely won't be broken in our lifetime. If he leads Bama to another NC this year, it would be very hard not to consider him the best ever at Bama, and one of the best ever in college football.

Remember, Alabama will potentially play an extra game starting next year. Stats pile up as number of games increases. Title: Re: "Assistant coach Lance Thompson on Alabama's quarterback: 'AJ's special'" Post by: 2Stater on October 29, 2013, 09:41:14 AM AJ will certainly leave a tremendous legacy. Let's hope we make that extra game every year. 8) Title: Re: "Assistant coach Lance Thompson on Alabama's quarterback: 'AJ's special'" Post by: ricky023 on October 29, 2013, 11:00:55 AM Sounds like our teams of the future need to make the extra games every year. RTR!

JMHO, RTR!

JMHO, RTR! Shula was a pretty good QB. Not great, but good, at least IMO. I will always think upon him favorably, though, for the near impossible comeback that he orchestrated against the barn in '85 that led to Van Tiffin's 52 yd FG. JMHO, RTR! I like Shula, but I would not put him in the second group. Stabler is in that group even though he didn't win a national championship because they were undefeated and were robbed by the polls. I would put Shula in a 3rd group, along with Brody Croyle, Walter Lewis, Freddie Kitchens, John Parker Wilson, and a ton of others. Just my opinion. :popcorn2: :popcorn2: Title: Re: "Assistant coach Lance Thompson on Alabama's quarterback: 'AJ's special'" Post by: pmull on October 29, 2013, 04:19:41 PM Pat Trammell was an elite QB for us. He was 26-2-4 as a started and won the 1961 Championship. He helped set the standard for the Bryant era.

I was thinking of Pat during the Tennessee game; how much faith CNS has in AJ, like Coach Bryant did in Pat. Those Coach-QB relationships can be very special. AJ and Coach Saban have such!
