Do you think Nick Saban will ever leave for Texas? How do you feel about the speculation? (poll)

Reportedly Sexton told the Texas regent that Texas was the only school Saban would consider leaving Alabama for.  I say reportedly because we only hear the regent's interpretation of what was said (a.k.a. what he wanted to hear).  It sounds to me like Sexton was just letting them down easy and trying to be polite.  Or he could have even been making a sarcastic remark that shot right over the regent's head.  Who knows.  I imagine something like this:

Regent:  Hey Jimmy, I was wondering if Coach Saban might be interested in coming to Texas if we were to fire his good friend Mack Brown.  Texas is the best school in the solar system, even better than the University of Mars.  It is by far the #1 job in all of sports.  All of the reporters agree on that.  We have more money than the government here, so money is no problem.  So, Jimmy, do you think Coach Saban would like to upgrade his position?

Sexton:  Well, Sir, if Nick were to leave Alabama it would only be to go to Texas.  He is under a lot of "special pressure" to win at Alabama, but I don't think he is interested in moving anywhere else at his age.  We will have to respectfully decline, but be sure to tell all of your colleagues that we have a tremendous amount of respect for Texas and wish them well in their coaching search.

Also, keep in mind that Sexton represents a lot of coaches.  If somebody comes asking about one of his clients, he has to be cordial because he may end up getting one of his other coaches an offer before it is all said and done.  It isn't wise for him to hurt their feelings.

Scarbo had a decent article on this today. He pointed out Sexton may have told the Texas Regent what he wanted to hear. That is what agents like Sexton do whether it is the truth or not. He also wrote that the Regent may have heard what he wanted to hear.

Quote
Sometimes agents tell headhunters like Hicks what they want to hear. Sometimes powerful people with an agenda like Hicks hear what they want to hear.

Hicks wants other powerful people at Texas to believe that Saban is interested in coming there if Mack Brown would just retire and get out of the way. So, of course, Hicks spins his conversation with Sexton in that direction.

That is an excellent point.  I haven't thought about that.  "If you guys will just fire Mack I can probably get Saban, but he won't talk to us until there is officially an opening."  That is a good way to try to convince them to fire Mack even if there is no hope of getting Saban.

It's just funny to me how this stuff pops up before every important game. Not just the Saban to Texas bs, but the Fluker debacle and Haha's situation. It's like all the Bama haters go out of their way to create distractions. They are steadily finding out that it doesn't work. I hope we stomp a mudhole in the traveling Lesters Saturday. Maybe that will be the end of it.

Easy fella, don't start thinking and acting like an Aubie who thinks the REC, SEC office, SEC refs, NCAA, & the CIA are all conspiring against Auburn. We are the top program in the nation and we make a huge target. Nobody cares what is going on at Colorado, Slippery Rock, Vandy, Iowa State or similar places. I know its frustrating but great success brings its own headaches.

This story came back up this week because Texas hired their replacement AD that will come in next August when their current AD retires.

All of this is my opinion.
1.  Saban has Bama on top.  He has the players he wants playing his type of football.  Why go and have to rebuild a program that has,I consider, a country club type attitude.

2.  It seems the boosters have their hands in too much.  I can't see Saban putting up with those guys.

3.  Can Saban handle all the time needed for the longhorn network?  He is a workaholic taking time to do that takes away from football.

I would be shocked if Saban doesn't retire at Bama.
