Title: AJ for Heisman and why
Post by: bamalum67 on November 10, 2013, 02:35:26 PM
From the Heisman website:

The Heisman Memorial Trophy annually recognizes the outstanding college football player whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity. Winners epitomize great ability combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work. The Heisman Trophy Trust ensures the continuation and integrity of this award.

SO, the voters have to SUBJECTIVELY decide:

who is the outstanding player

whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellency with integrity

(who) epitomizes the great ability combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work.

Based on this, how could the voters not select AJ McCarron?

Johnny FF?  the integrity requirement will eliminate him

any first year player?  how can they compete with 4 years of hard work, diligence, and perseverance by AJ?

Should BAMA win the NC, it seems to me AJ is the logical choice..but since the voters are who they are (mostly media pukes), I suppose logic is lacking.

AJ is my man , no matter..!! Roll, Tide!

The Heisman lost all credibility when Cam Newton won it. In order for Cam Newton to even be eligible the requirements would have to be amended to delete all references to integrity.

It is not a career achievement award. It should be based on this year alone. For instance I thought JF was a deserving winner last year. His actions off the field this year should hurt him. I have no problem with a first year player winning the award. Ingram won it as a Sophomore and I felt he deserved it.

If AJ continues to play at his current pace I don't know if he will win the Heisman but he should be in the Top Three. I would not trade him for any other player in the country.

To win it, AJ needs to let it be known that Katherine will accompany him to NY.

Mom will clap enough for everyone at the ceremony.  :lol2:

I personally feel that the Heisman trophy isn't worth what it costs to make.  Instead of being based on all of those characteristics you mentioned in the OP it has become wholly about who can put up the best numbers regardless.  That being the case, I would absolutely love to see A.J. be named the winner only to have him step up to the podium and tell the committee to stick it where the sun don't shine... literally.

I think AJ is great and wouldn't rake any othe QB in the nation over him. With that said, he generally does not exhibit the athleticism, stats, and big play portfolio that previous winners have. And yesterday didn't help. He missed three big-moment throws in the first half that could have made this game his Heissman moment. What makes AJ truly great is that he didn't press to get his Heissman moment back. He operated smartly with his coaches and teammates to get us the win. That's how you can be the best quarterback in the country and the fifth runner up for the Heissman.
