Title: Da'Shawn Hand
Post by: hscoach on November 13, 2013, 09:15:41 PM
I hear he is announcing tomorrow, anyone know Bama's chances?

I think most people think he is a Michigan lean, however, Michigan hasn't dazzled anyone this year, so who knows?

A talk show on Sirius Radio today said Michigan was the leader.

But why??  Makes no sense!

Was he in T-Town this weekend? If so and he still wants to go to Meechigan, then he's not smart enough to play for Bama.

According to some sites Bama had many recruits at the game this weekend.

That's why I was asking, because I was thinking he was one of them.

I know the RB from La was there and some big lineman, I think D Mama is his name.

You guys read the Recruiting thread.  I put a bunch of those updates on there this week.

Yes, D Mama was one, if he's the Calif kid.  Was "impressed with Alabama"; good visit.

I did read that. I like our chances with him. Room is running out, these 5 stars that want to go to the NFL better sign up in a hurry or they'll be left out.

Analyst Mike Farrell, who has been close to Da'Shawn Hand's camp throughout the entire process, ... offered up a tweet that suggests something might be shifting.

"Honestly if Hand picked #Alabama tomorrow I wouldn't be stunned," Farrell tweeted. "This is very close according to a great source."

 :popcorn2: :popcorn2: :popcorn2: :popcorn2: :popcorn2:

Unfortunately:  "As far as other Hand predictions are concerned, 247sports.com -- a recruiting service who publishes "predictions" in the form of its "crystal ball" still has the Wolverines as a heavy favorite for Hand's services.

As of Wednesday morning, Michigan was at a whopping 88 percent. Alabama was at 11 percent and Florida was at 1 percent. Eighty 247sports.com analysts have made predictions."

Somehow I get the feeling that he may not like the competition he would have to play through to get playing time at Bama. He reminds me of J. Clowney when Clowney was making his decision on where to play and I still say that Clowney made a bad decision by not coming to Bama.

A friend and I were talking about Clowney this week.  He's an LSU fan (so he wanted to talk anything except their loss).  We both agreed that Clowney's stock has dropped.  Many people predicted that going to USCe would hurt his NFL draft status.  Until this year it looked like he'd be okay.  But no longer.

Now looks like he MIGHT be the first defensive player taken, but he is projected behind 3 QBs (Mariota, Bridgewater, AND Mettenberger!).

His conditioning seems to be terrible, I just don't see him doing well in the combines and that is where he will be rated.

I think the official story, at least from one of my business partners who is a USCe alumnus and from the same hometown as Clowney, is that Mama wanted him close to home. He said if it was up to just Jadeveon, he probably would have attended Bama.

I've not gotten this at all.  He's been very interested in academics and the program he plans to enroll in at each school.  He likes Michigan's Sports Management program a lot.  I don't recall Clowney being too conerned about the academic side of things.

Just heard another discussion of Da'Shawn on Sirius radio this morning (Bill King Show).  They said, "It will be a surprise if he announces to anywhere but Michigan."

Sounds like best we can hope is that he delays the announcement or likes SHOCK.

But the discussion centered around him being a thoughtful and careful kid who doesn't make snap  :lol2:  decisions; thus, they don't expect him to suddenly change his mind.

HOPEFUL...

From a Michigan blogger:

"Da'Shawn Hand chose Alabama over Michigan and Florida in an excruciatingly long televised announcement on NBCSN, citing the opportunity to major in civil enginering and the chance to win a national championship.

I've got nothing else. This month can't end soon enough. Please be civil in the comments, especially since it's pretty darn difficult to blame Hand given, you know, the state of things."

Be warned: some comments were not "civil":

I'm glad to see the young men from the other areas of the country choose the Tide, I think it puts to rest all of the negative publicity that we Alabamians have to live with because of certain journalists. It must not be too bad to live in Alabama.

Bama's degree requirments for Civil Engineering involve demonstrating that you can dig a hole and hammer a nail. I sure he will have plenty of time left over for football.

Another guy that knows everything. I'm not real familiar with the Engineering Dept. at Bama, but I'd bet dollars to donuts that they don't dig holes with hammers and nails. At least I think that is what he's implying. Apparently there is a shortage of English majors at UM.

How does this sound for a future defensive line for Alabama? Jonathan Allen (4*-5*), Ashawn Robinson (4*-5*), Dee Liner (Consensus 5*), and DaShawn Hand (Consensus 5*). Good Lord this will be an NFL defensive line. And then you add Tim Williams, Rueben Foster, Ryan Anderson, Reggie Ragland, and Dillon Lee. Best front 7 in all of football. I'm getting goosebumps! Roll Tide!

This all sounds good, but someone must be the leader like CJ to make sure they are in the right place with the calls and do the right thing.

I hope they can dig that leader out of one of those guys. RF I think would make a good leader. Dee Liner and DaShawn Hand will come to be leaders i think. This should be power in the leaders of the defense. RTR!

With both A'Shawn and Da'Shawn, Vern will be a mess!

Maybe Vern should use their jersey numbers rather than their names. ;)
He'd mess that up too.   :lol2:

Vern (squinting):

"#31 sprints to the 3, and tackled by his own man, #31.
OH WOW, IN YOUR LIFE HAVE YOU SEEN SO MANY 31s?"

What makes Hand stand out is not necessarily his pure speed as an edge rusher but his overwhelming power. Hand is nearly 260 pounds of pure muscle and he's spent his high school career regularly plowing through offensive linemen on his way to the backfield. Hand is capable of adding more weight and lining up as a true 3-4 defensive end or staying about where he is and lining up at Jack linebacker. It will likely take some time for Hand to perfect his technique, something that likely hasn't been as crucial for him to succeed at the high school level, but he was widely regarded during the offseason as one of the sharpest and hardest-working prospects on the camp circuit.

With freshmen A'Shawn Robinson, Jonathan Allen and Dee Liner already contributing this year, Hand will be a part of a young but extremely talented group of players manning the defensive front for Alabama over the next few years. With a couple of years of coaching and development, that group has the potential to be one of the most dominant units ever seen in Tuscaloosa....

...With two commitments from players ranked No. 1 overall by different services (Hand and OT Cameron Robinson), it's difficult to imagine a scenario in which Alabama does not finish No. 1 in the 2014 recruiting rankings. The Tide still has two other five-star prospects on their radar in running back Leonard Fournette and cornerback Marlon Humphrey.
