Title: drake (updated: linguistics, etymology, Italian and Southern literature, & cats)
Post by: bamalum67 on November 17, 2013, 06:18:05 AM
I do not now, or have ever , trusted Drake to hold on to the ball..should he play against the barners, I will shiver every time he gets the ball.

I do not understand why CNS does not get in his head so that he understands he has to hold on to the ball.

He will, one day, cost us a game..I hope it will not be in 2 weeks...or after.

If I am correct, he has fumbled 4 times this year already.

I ain't on the Drake team.

Kenyan Drake had one T.J. Yeldon had one too

Mississippi State's Tyler Russell had 2
and Lewis and.Holloway had one apiece as well

there was a lot of slipping going on it seemed also

but yes ...
Drake and Yeldon could do a better job holding on to the rock IMHO

not going to get to excited just yet though
both of them were averaging about 7 yds. a carry last night  :worship:

While I sympathize with the fumbles, I don't think you ignore the fact that this kid has nearly 600 yards rushing on 77 carries (an average of over 7.5 yards per carry) and has 7 TDs. He is too valuable a weapon to NOT use.

You are right about trusting him, he has become very high risk.Yeldon has laid it on the ground as well and you can bet the Barners will be trying to strip the ball. They have two weeks to work on these things, let's hope it improves.

I have a feeling Coach Burns will be hearing about it from Coach Saban as well.

from the look CNS had on his face last night when it happened ?
that is a very safe bet , CBB may want to "pad" his butt cheeks

THE DRAKE is a fine RB, and he is key to our offense.
Folks were calling for Eddie Lacy to be benched when he had fumble problems a few years back.  It happens.
But the speed and elusiveness of Drake gives us a huge lift against tiring defenses, as shown several times, such as the Ole Miss game this year.

"Drake’s speed, combined with Yeldon’s power-run abilities, make the pair one of Saban’s most dangerous combinations. Rather than having two running backs who can punish you the whole game, swapping in and out to stay fresh, the Crimson Tide boast two running backs that are truly a change of pace. You can’t defend Yeldon the same way you defend Drake."

I hate the fumbles but I love his speed and quickness. He is capable of busting a long TD run every time he touches the ball. Other may worry when he comes into the game but I look forward to it. He is a special player.

The coaches used to make players that fumbled in a game carry a football to class for a week.  Do they sill do that?  Might want to try that again.

Coach Bryant started that.
I remember seeing them walking across campus, with tape wrapped around the ball to form a handle (hardly helped the intention of improving technique).
I don't think they've done it for 20-30 years.  :dunno:

When Lacy was fumbling as a young pup, Saban pulled him and he didn't play again for several games.  (Ingram and Richardson were still playing.)  Lacy clearly worked on it because he got much better about fumbling.

Yeldon and Drake both have ball security issues.  Maybe Saban can start Fowler against UT Chattanooga, and have Yeldon and Drake work on fumble drills all week.  The ball is bouncing AU's way, Bama cannot afford turnovers in that game.   (If we had played the Barn last night it probably would have been a loss.)

We best be worrying about UTC before we get to Auburn.  I know, I know, lower level.  I believe they are 8-3.  Anybody else remember Louisiana Monroe?  If we have 2 fumbles and two picks next week the Auburn game may not matter!  ROLL TIDE!!!

Yeldon fumbled the ball away last night and it led to a TD for Miss St.  Drake fumbled the ball away giving Miss St the ball in Bama territory but didn't lead to points.   Yeldon fumbled the ball against aTm two years in a row.  And you don't trust Drake?

Both players fumbled.  It is part of the game.  I have like Drake since last year and will continue to like him.  He hits the hole hard.  A lot of these fumbles are extra effort fumbles.

Yeldon carries the ball a lot more than Drake, in fact more than double.

The term “Moc” is short for “Mockingbird.” Mockingbirds are fiercely territorial creatures which protect their homes with courage, determination and skill. Those attributes reflect the intellect, spirit and character of UTC student-athletes and alumni. A Moc is a champion on the playing surface, in the classroom and, most importantly, in life.http://www.gomocs.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=17700&ATCLID=204825720

Quote
What is a Moc?

The Answer
For more than a decade, this question has puzzled many fans and observers of Chattanooga Athletics.

The UTC Athletics Department changed logos in 1997, moving away from Native American imagery to a package of logos using railroad images, the nickname “Mocs,” and the Scrappy mascot. The new package emphasized UTC’s connection to Chattanooga and the city’s railroad heritage and incorporated the Tennessee state bird.

The term “Moc” is short for “Mockingbird.” Mockingbirds are fiercely territorial creatures which protect their homes with courage, determination and skill. Those attributes reflect the intellect, spirit and character of UTC student-athletes and alumni. A Moc is a champion on the playing surface, in the classroom and, most importantly, in life.

Scrappy
Named after legendary football coach A.C. “Scrappy” Moore, Scrappy, the Chattanooga mascot, is a fixture for the Mocs.  A re-design in 2008 puts Scrappy in the image of the State Bird of Tennessee, a Mockingbird.  The mockingbird is known as a fierce protector of its nest and environment. It is sometimes seen swooping down on a dog, cat or predator that may be venturing too close to the bird’s protected territory.   Once described by “Late Night” host Jimmy Fallon as “a sledge-hammer wielding mockingbird with a heart of Blue & Gold,” Scrappy symbolizes that competitive passion.

Why Mocs?
Faced with politically sensitive issues and in need of a stronger core identity to help establish a strong brand as Chattanooga’s Team, the athletics department embarked on a comprehensive identity program in 1996. A new direction for the athletics identity was determined, moving away from the politically incorrect Native American Indian imagery.
