Quote Italian government officials have accused the country's top seismologist of manslaughter, after failing to predict a natural disaster that struck Italy in 2009, a massive devastating earthquake that killed 308 people. A shocked spokesman for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) likened the accusations to a witch hunt. "It has a medieval flavor to it -- like witches are being put on trial," the stunned spokesman told FoxNews.com. Correct me if I am wrong here general (geology was never my strong suit), but predicting earthquakes seem to be much harder to do with complete certainty than are severe weather formations. There are major variables we do not know. All we can do is look at history and give very broad time frames or say something appears to be "due". No where near the ability to predict weather. Back around 2005 a prosecutor in Belgium was going to indict Cheney and Bush for war crimes. The US then informed Belgium they would be moving NATO Headquarters and all US folks from Belgium. This meant the loss of THOUSANDS of jobs and billions of dollars. Belgium and the prosecutor announced no indictment would be issued. I love it.

See what I mean about geology not being my strong suit (probably why I am a history major; its much easier!). I did not realize that it was impossible to predict EQs, but that makes a lot of sense. I didnt know you lived in huntsville. I am there 5 days a week.
