Title: Has the PAC 12 been exposed?
Post by: 2Stater on November 23, 2013, 08:15:28 PM
So three weeks ago, the talking heads were saying the PAC 12 was maybe as good, if not better, than the SEC. Now, the best teams in that conference have no less than 2 losses. The top 2 teams of the West division of the SEC have one loss between them. Looks to me like the PAC 12 is once again over-hyped.

What say you?

I don't think they are over-hyped. Oregon seemed unmotivated after losing to Stanford and bad-mouthing about having to play in the Rose Bowl, instead of the NC game. Karma bit them hard over that. I definitely think they are the 2nd best conference behind the SEC. They have some solid teams.

Getting their rear end handed to them like what happened today is more than just being unmotivated. Arizona pummeled what was supposed to be a very talented team. Granted, the PAC 12 has some talented teams, and I think Stanford is the cream of the crop. However, I don't think they could could beat Bama, the barn, LSU, TAMU, SC or Mizzou.

I still think it's the SEC #1, the rest of the college football world, also rans.

We will not know until bowl season. They are beating each other.

Bowl season seems to tell the tale. I know we usually look good in season, but our #3 to 4 teams all lose to other teams. This allows the media to crunch us over the winter and spring. lol, sorry it has happened. RTR!

Good point, but if they play and beat, say, 3 Big Ten teams, will that mean anything, either?

That's kind of my thinking, too. Unless PAC12 teams and SEC teams go head to head, or the B1G beats up on the PAC12, I guess we're just speculating, which I was doing to begin with.

Hard to say.  The SEC East is weak this year.

This is probably not going to be popular, but IMO the entire SEC is down a little bit this year.  It's still the best conference by far, but I think it was stronger last year.  Going into the championship game last year we had 6 teams in the BCS top 10:

2.  Alabama
3.  Georgia
4.  Florida
7.  LSU
9.  Texas A&M
10.  South Carolina

I agree. Injuries have devastated Florida & Georgia and hampered South Carolina (Connor Shaw missing time). LSU lost heavily from their defense with 6 very good starters being lost. Even with all the adversity, only one other conference comes close to the SEC.

We still have 4 with Bama, da barn, Mizzou and USCe. Not too shabby.

The barn has no business being in the top 10 IMO.  That is an honest assessment.  They will be exposed Saturday.

Their defense is awful, especially the pass D. Would love to see AJ throw 5 TD's have have 300 yards passing (along with 200 rushing by RB's).

And a 1 dimensional offense will struggle mightily against our defense.  They better be working on some passing plays.

I agree that Auburn is a mirage. I just saw where their defense is ranked 79th and ours 3rd with the #1 scoring defense. But they are very much like PAC12 teams in that they are a spread, schematic offense, with virtually no "D". Stanford is the only conventional team in the PAC12 with any kind of defense.

They are 104th in passing and 2nd in rushing.  We have the best defense in the country AND we score more points per game than they do.

I'm loving how most of our threads, regardless of the topic, are migrating to how and why we are going to beat Auburn.  :lol2:
