Title: Stephen Garcia allowed at workouts
Post by: pmull on May 30, 2011, 11:26:29 AM
Does this surprise anybody?

Quote
Garcia was suspended for the fifth time in his college career -- and second time during spring practice -- on April 6 after an incident at a life skills seminar where he "exhibited behavior that is unacceptable for one of our student-athletes," athletic director Eric Hyman said. Garcia was given several confidential guidelines to adhere to if he hoped for reinstatement.

So far, so good.

"We will give him another chance and hopefully he can do the right things and represent the university in a first-class manner," Spurrier said in a statement Monday.

I would show you my shocked and amazed face, but you've all seen it after all the other suspensions.

Hasn't that ship sailed?

I can see giving a guy a second and maybe a third chance. But 6 times. If I was coach he would be off my team.

CSS = winning at all costs even with an average talent drunk for a QB.

Yeah, Spurrier has always bn a phony when it came to being tough with problem children. He talks tough, then acts like a girly-man.

Maybe Bama will play USC in Atlanta in Dec. and deliver some payback. I would love to see Bama's defense get after Garcia like they got after MSU's QB Kitchens in the bowl game. 8)

Does this mean Garcia will stay sober for practice but otherwise will stay drunk the rest of the time?

I think it means the rules are for everybody else. Garcia the drunk is untouchable.

Alabama QBs may get a 2nd chance depending on what they did but after that I believe they would be history. Not disciplining Garica just sends a negative message to the rest of the team. What did CSS tell Clowney earlier this year when he got arrested for DUI? Son, we're going to give you 1 more chance...

Steve Spurrier has really been nothing. His respect has dropped to about a 1 and this does not surprise me at all. RTR!

I think if CSS had another QB Garcia would be gone, so that being the case, welcome back Garcia.

He does have another QB.... Conner Shaw is not a bad QB at all.  But Garcia's troubles have been for drinking.  Not really that big of a deal.  It's not like he was selling coke outside the stadium.

Not a big deal? I agree some things have zero tolerance and other things such as a college kid drinking you can deal with once - maybe twice. Garcia has been suspended 6 times. If CSS was comfortable with his back-up Garcia would be gone.

ESPN- Chris Lowe 06/01/11

"His most recent suspension came after he became disruptive and was asked to leave an SEC-mandated life skills/leadership seminar in April. Garcia admitted to Spurrier that he’d been drinking prior to the event "

I would have thought Spurrier would have found another QB by now. I am one to think that if Garcia was sit out a season, that may have gotten his attention and forced him to address his problem.

Garcia missed 3 spring practices from suspensions. Last year USCe folded down the stretch and looked average because Garica's play was average. He injured his shoulder late in the season as well. I am glad to be a fan of the best program in college football. RTR!
