The Alabama men's basketball team fell at South Florida Saturday night by a score of 66-64. Retin Obasohan led the Crimson Tide with a career-high 20 points, while Trevor Releford chipped in 17 points before fouling out late in the second half.

This was a game that Bama needed to win and should have won because it was a non-conference road game which really helps when tournament selection time rolls around. Bama played sloppy ball all night, especially in the first half. Jacobs couldn't buy a bucket in the first half and neither of the other two big men was much help either. USF matched Bama with their team speed but had two big men at the center position that pretty much controled everything underneath the basket all night.

If Bama is expecting to reach the NCAA tournament this year, they had better get on their game face and start winning some games between now and when conference play begins. The lack of wins in the non-conference games last year is what kept the team out of the NCAA tournament so Bama improved their schedule to help this matter, but they have to win some games, close loses will not help the matter.

I'm not going to get riled up about basketball this year.  Bama's success ultimately rides on the play of Releford, and he seems less disciplined and less focused, if anything.  Obasohan has definitely stepped up his game, but I don't think he and the other players can carry the team into the NCAAs.

But you are correct, Bama needs to put on its game face and start winning.  There is a three-game stretch coming up, Wichita State, Xavier and UCLA.  Bama needs to win two of those.

Alabama got beat on the boards 39-31 and out scored in the paint 20-14. Our guards are solid but we can not shoot well enough from the perimeter to win without some help from the post.

South Florida is not a bad team and this will not be considered a bad loss but it was a game we needed badly. Our season is off to a terrible start. We do not have a quality win yet. We still have a few chances before SEC play starts.

This was our most disappointing loss yet. I was expecting to win this one.

This is starting to look like a nightmare season. I know, it's early, but these are the very same problems
this team has had under Coach Grant. If this season falls apart, it will get ugly. I agree, the games against Xavier, UCLA, & Wichita State are huge. Plus, the SEC is looking stronger this year with Ole Miss, Kentucky, Florida, Missouri, & maybe Tennessee, & Vandy.
