Title: Oklahoma or Oregon?
Post by: Catch Prothro on December 08, 2013, 07:31:24 AM
Who do you think Bama's opponent in the Sugar Bowl will be?  Oklahoma or Oregon?

Who do you want Bama's opponent to be?

The other BCS Bowls appear pretty set:

BCSCG:  Florida St v. Barn
Rose Bowl:  Stanford v. Michigan State
Orange Bowl:  Clemson v. Ohio State
Fiesta Bowl:  Baylor v. UCF

Orange picks before Sugar, so everyone thinks they will grab Ohio State.  Clemson is ACC tie-in.

Baylor has Fiesta Bowl tie-in and picks last, UCF is projected last BCS team standing.

Rose takes Big10 and PAC12 tie-ins.

That leaves the Sugar Bowl, which gets Bama as SEC tie-in.  Then BCS at large.  I think Oregon should be rated ahead of Oklahoma, but some experts are projecting Oklahoma.

Both Oregon and Oklahoma travel well, although Oklahoma is closer to N.O..  The Big12 also will be part of the "Champions Bowl" scheduled to start in New Orleans next year, between Big12 and SEC champions (SEC/Big12 answer to Rose Bowl tie-in with PAC12 and Big12).  So I guess the experts probably are right and the Sugar Bowl will take OK over Oregon.  That is the direction the Sugar Bowl directors are heading.

But Bama/Oregon was projected much of the season as the National Championship game, and is a match-up a lot of fans would like to see.  I think it gets better ratings than the OK matchup.  So I don't think it is a foregone conclusion.

All the "experts" are saying Oklahoma.  I'm fine with either one.  If Bama shows up to play we win easily against either opponent.

I think I would be happy playing either team. We owe the Sooners a little payback, and we owe the Ducks a big ol' dose of shutup juice.

Every projection I have seen has us in the Sugar against Oklahoma. Oklahoma is not projected to be in the BCS Top 10. They are projected 12.

Mrs. 2 tries to force feed me a big dose of this daily.

I would like to see us against Oregon (always wondered how we would be able to matchup with them if we ever had to face them), but will probably be Stoops.

The Sugar then goes again, and it looks like it will come down to Oklahoma vs. Oregon. The Sooners are closer, have a larger and more established fanbase, and haven't been to the BCS since 2010. Most critically, the Sugar Bowl is developing a partnership with the Big 12; once the Playoff starts next year, it'll be an SEC-Big 12 game every year. It has reason to start giving Big 12 teams the spotlight now.
Why Oklahoma is Bama's likely opponent.

Bama doesn't lose two straight games, so either one is okay.

I wonder how many points OK will score, considering Stoops claims we don't play defense in the SEC.

Well, watching the game last night I'm starting to think he's right... :tinfoil:

Looks like OU. Hope Stoops learns not to mouth off.

I hope our A team shows up. If they do, it should be a blowout.
