Title: Baseball Ranked 29th in Collegiate Baseball Preseason Poll
Post by: pmull on December 22, 2013, 07:36:09 AM
Alabama baseball showed a lot of improvement last year with a bunch of young guys. Most of the team is back with and a good incoming class that has several players expected to contribute right away.

Quote
Fifth-year head coach Mitch Gaspard and his staff of former Alabama All-Americans Dax Norris and Andy Phillips, look forward to an exciting season of Alabama baseball in 2014, as Tide returns 21 players, including nine pitchers and five position starters from last year's NCAA Regional squad, while adding another list of outstanding recruits.

Alabama is coming off a 2013 season that saw the Tide post a 35-28 overall record while finishing Southeastern Conference play with a 14-15 mark, en route to the school's 23rd NCAA Regional appearance and third in four years under the guidance of Gaspard

Maybe these guys can give us something to cheer about in the off season since the basketball team is headed in the wrong direction.

LOL!   :loll:   I was thinking the same thing. I love baseball so I am excited about this year. The SEC is the best conference in baseball, too.

I really hope the pitching staff lives up to its potential.  I think that can be this team's strength.

I hope we can find an SEC caliber catcher.  Last one we've had was Kodi Valverdi, and that was a while ago.  Maybe Wass will be healthy and fill that bill.

I hope we can find the long ball again in our hitting.  We've really been anemic in that area in recent years.

If we can address these three areas effectively, we should have a team which can compete favorably in the conference.

Looking forward to the season.  Hope to be able to hook up with Jamos to watch some of the games.

I think the pitching will be a strength this year. In addition to Wass we signed a catcher. If Wass does not catch he would be a good DH. We have not had a power DH in years. It kills me to see our DH hitting 8th or 9th and the weakest hitter in the line up.

It sure would be nice to host a regional again.

Yeah, the catcher we signed is from here in the Nashville area, played for Brentwood Academy, a 6' 5", 225 pounder.  Big strong power hitter.  Hope he can make the transition to SEC.
