I think one result of these up-tempo teams will be teams using smaller but quicker & faster players on D. Instead of 250#+ LB's, we might see more LB's at 220-240#s. Also, D linemen at 255#s-275#s instead of 295-315. Just a thought.

Walked into the end zone for the TD. Crappy defense all the way around. Our DB's have been exposed all year. With no pass rush, that makes the DB's even more vulnerable.

In a sense.  Both OU and Utah were primarily running teams who came into the Sugar Bowl with a different game plan.  Credit to Stoops for recognizing our weakness and developing an effective plan.

Let's recap:

Bama coaching staff made the decision to let AJ air it out in his last game, a decision we probably all agree with.  He's made some big plays, but a couple of really bad decisions have been costly.

Oklahoma has showed something offensively that was completely unexpected, and to their credit have pulled it off.

We knew DBs were a weakness coming into the season, had a significant injury with Vinnie, and haven't had any of the young players step up. 

The reality is that this team probably overachieved at 11-1.  Next year the defense will be more experienced and deeper.  Whoever the QB is will have a loaded offense and should have an improved O-line.

Good recap. I have thought we over-achieved starting with the A&M game and our DB's were so horrible. We simply lost too much quality last year. The "experts" glossed over our D losses & thought our offense would carry us. Even Saban can not make miracles. We should be better on D next year.

I'm not going to flame anyone but it is SO frustrating for me to be here during games. As soon as Bama doesn't play well, some people call it "over", "done" ,etc. We've seen even this week, how  a team can score 14 points in 45 seconds! And yet, we have folks giving up with 10 minutes (or MORE) left in the game!! For those who are glad the season is over for you, more power to you. We MAY not win this game. But to give up so early is ridiculous.

Don't sweat the small stuff. One poster gave up, not the whole Tide fan base. Mostly it's just total frustration. The D stinks, the O-line stinks, and we have looked very average against a slightly above average team. These Tide DB's are absolutely awful, no doubt about it.

Scott Cochran needs to have this game, the barn game, and the chants of "OVERRATED!" on a continuous loop in the weight room.

Sometimes you gotta tip your hat to the other team and this is one of those times.  OK wanted this game more than we did.  They were better prepared and, sorry to say, better coached than our guys.

This way this season ended may cause some rumbling in the football complex in T'town.

The bottom line to this season has been frustration. This team has looked average since the LSU game. The flaws were big against aubie and OU. The secondary was thin and inexperienced. The Oline was not a wham block group lots more zone blocking. Yes the WRs are great weapons but AJ need time to get the ball to them.

That said, Henry may unseat Yeldon. He reminds me of a combination of TR and EL. Size, strength, strength and speed. He will be a big part of the O. There will be a new qb and he will need time to earn trust with the coaches. CJ will be missed no doubt.

Next year will be fun to watch and see how this team will find an identity.

Those are my two cents.

Well I for one am tired of losing to OK.  That's three in a row.  It was fun watching Bama pound Michigan after witnessing that Orange Bowl in 2000, and I was hoping to see a similar payback against the Sooners.  But the Sooners came out with a better gameplan, played with more passion, and won.

I agree that Bama played as much on reputation as talent this year.  The defense has been thinner than any year under Saban, except his first.  The D didn't always play gap-conscious, took poor tackling angles, failed to post receivers, and made other mental errors not typical with Saban.  And these problems existed all season.

But worse, against Oklahoma, the offense played straight into their strength.  A defense built to stop the pass game, and that's mostly what Bama did.  Henry had 100 yards on 8 carries.  You can bet Les Miles would have run the ball down their throats until they cried uncle.  Maybe Bama's OLine wasn't the same as last year, more zone blocking, but I think Bama gave up on the run way too soon.

I think the bottom line is that this team never really established an identity.  It is easy for that to happen when a team has had success, keep doing what got you there, especially with returning offensive and defensive leaders.  But different players could not establish the same identity.

With AJ leaving, young players coming in, it will be interesting to see what happens next year.  It will be time for self-examination in the off-season.  Saban isn't 100% happy with the offense.  Young defensive players need to step up their game.

Sorry I didn't get to participate much in the in-game last night. I had the grandson and if I don't want to lose my livelihood, I have to close my computer around him.

But my post game observation 2 cents: our db's were torched last night. That's the worst they've looked since the TAMU game, but you have to give the Ok, QB and receivers credit, they were executing to perfection and kudos to them.

Yeldon is killing us with the "near the goal line" fumbles. That completely changed the momentum last night. We never really recovered from that.

King Henry was an absolute beast and he's in for 8 plays? Really? I agree, we gave up on the run too early. It was clear very early in the 4th quarter that Ok. had figured out our intermediate and long passing game. We completely abandoned the quick out to the WR after it was stopped once and we abandoned the short passes, screens and dump offs, as well. The short dump off to King Henry went for a TD for crying out loud. That should never have happened as Cyko was getting beat like a rented mule, and couldn't protect AJ on the longer pass attempts.

Having now vented, I will say that I'm still proud of the team and all of their accomplishments and look forward to next year. Also glad we got Hootie back.

Well, at least we have Tide basketball to watch & enjoy now.

There were numerous problems on both sides of the ball last night, but to me the biggest problem of all APPEARS to be something that was a little less tangible: heart. OU seemed to have it, Tide did not. I know, I know, I can't see what is going on in the head of those kids, but I just didn't seem any fire for this game. This was my biggest fear coming into the game. We were more talented than OU, but that is meaningless if your players don't go out and act like they want to be there. The last second loss to the barn I think took all the wind out of this team, and the season was over as soon as that game ended.

Having said that, though, I am still proud of this team, particularly the seniors, who go out the most successful in Bama history. I am also a little steamed that a certain poster on here who I shall not dignify by naming completely gave up and flamed this team and then didn't have the ....fortitude.... to stay around to answer. I don't have a problem with being critical of the team and how they played (goodness knows there was much to criticize last night), but man up and explain critiques and don't act like a coward (though considering some of the other posts that this person has typed recently, I guess I shouldn't be surprised).

I look forward to seeing what adjustments CNS makes in the off season to get us (hopefully) into that top 4 next year.

By the way, considering the state of the basketball team, when does gymnastics start?  :lol2:

The last 2 games there has been something missing that is difficult to put a finger on. Maybe team chemistry, play calling, or just the team trying to live up to #1 expectations all season. I will say that for anyone to put down this team and still suggest they are Bama fans is difficult to understand.We have one of the most honorable,well respected and well coached teams in the nation. For 1 or 2 games to expose the trolls or gameday fans and let them move to their real fanbase :BYE! and Roll Tide!

I'm sure some of our fan-base got nervous and sipped the spirits last night!Sometimes that brings out things we usually wouldn't say, and regret later. I checked in a few times and read the comments last night. But, I chose to get on the treadmill and exercise every time I got nervous. I got 2 hours and 3 minutes on the treadmill last night. That shows I was nervous most of the night! But, still very proud of the the way our team showed character after the game! Roll Tide!

I HOPE you're right about fans' reasons for their comments.  I don't mind folks stating the obvious when the team's not playing well, but when folks start posting comments that hint they know more than the coaches or attacks on specific players, then I get miffed. 

A forum has these problems; so it happens.  We all go on line to learn more about the team, so inevitably people blow their own horns when their predictions are right (but seldom when wrong).  Nobody wants to hear: "I KNEW ___ WOULD COST US A GAME" and such.  Players go on line too, and it can be hurtful to them.

Still, the forum is worth it when rules are followed.  Thanks to those who keep it clean and welcoming.  :worship:

The morning after is tough but, the sun did come up and we all have much to be thankful for.

I have no doubt that our coaches will be evaluating and re-evaluating this game along with how best to move our team forward in 2014.

Finally, congratulations to our seniors and our team for a successful season.

Stating the obvious and what your own eyes see is not an attack. Calling names, threatening, and making outrageous statements about a person's character are an attack. Saying AJ had a bad game is not an attack. Saying Kouandjo had a bad game is an observation & in this case a fact, not an attack. HUGE difference. Questioning why Henry had only 8 carries is not an attack. Asking why we don't have a better kicking game or pass rushing is not an attack, it's a legitimate question, concern, & observation. This is America, isn't it?
