Title: Vandy Coach Going to Penn State-Update
Post by: Marshal Dillon on January 09, 2014, 11:33:00 AM
Honestly, I am surprised to hear this.

The Scranton Times-Tribune on Wednesday reported that Penn State offered its head-coaching position to Vanderbilt coach James Franklin during "an hours-long meeting with the university's search committee in Destin, Fla."

Citing a pair of anonymous sources, the Times-Tribune reported that the 41-year-old Franklin will either accept or reject the offer Thursday.

Well, off to Penn State.

Vanderbilt coach James Franklin has agreed to terms with Penn State to become the school’s head football coach.

Over three seasons coaching the Commodores, Franklin, 41, compiled a 24-15 overall record and went 11-13 in the SEC. He also led the program to three consecutive bowl appearances, winning two of those games. Prior to his arrival in Nashville from the University of Maryland, the program suffered a 4-20 record and recorded only one win in the Southeastern Conference over two seasons.

So does Vandy go back in the dumper?
Probably, although Franklin has shown it isn't the career-ending job most thought.

Franklin competed in the weakest era of SEC East football since the league went to divisions in the early 90's. Vandy benefited from Tenn being down more than anyone else in the league.
