Title: Mike Hamilton resigning as AD
Post by: pmull on June 07, 2011, 09:32:10 AM
It looks like Hamilton is out as Tenn AD. This can not surprise anyone.

The question is, what took so long? It's not a coincidence that he "resigned" five days before they face the NCAA. He and Pearl were let go in hopes of softening the blow from the NCAA.

As the Marshall said...how did it take this long?  Not only are they having NCAA compliance issues, he's just done an all around crappy job (see Lane Kiffin).

They've been going downhill ever since they ran Johnny Majors off. It will be interesting to see what the NCAA will do to them since USC got hammered by the NCAA.

My predicter is getting better. I figured this would happen sooner as well, but I did predict it. There's hope for me yet.

Under Hamilton's watch he hired Kiffin and let a bad football situation get worse, hired Bruce which looked good for awhile but went south this year and just fired the baseball coach. The big three mens sports are at the lowest point in recent history.

MD was on the mark with "what took so long".

Yeah, I wonder what happens now with UT and the AD spot. I would bet they look for a former player or coach to hire, but not Fulmer.

I think fat Phil will lobby like hell for it, though. What do you think?

Fat Phil will try but even the vols are smarter than that.

Actually I think Fulmer will have a very good shot at it.  Especially if he has the support of Summit and Dooley.

Your athlectic program is in pretty bad shape if the second year football coach that still uses training wheels and your women's basketball coach (no disrespect to CPS but it is still women's BB) call the shots.

I think you may be right. FP is still pretty well thought of at UT. As time goes by, the fans will forget about his last couple of years as coach and remember the National championship. I personally wouldn't mind him becoming the AD. It will give me a reason to hate them again. I WON'T forget what a rat bastid he is.

I just don't see Fulmer coming back. I think they want to start fresh and bring in someone else.

Tressel would prolly make a good AD for them.  ;D

Well I think they are in pretty bad shape, considering where they have been historically.  Fulmer will have a lot of support from boosters and the Tennessee faithful too, I believe.  The coaches would just be icing on the cake.

IMO Fulmer would be a terrible AD unless they have a plan. Fulmer could be the face of the program and have a strong support staff behind him. Mal Moore is an example of that approach.

I think the Tenn administration will be forward thinking and try to hire a strong AD that will help build the athletic program back to national respect. Tenn is a strong school that will rebound. It is critical they make good decisions or it will take longer than the vol supporters would like.

That's why I wouldn't mind seeing him in that position.

If Fulmer becomes AD, does that mean Krispy Kreme automatically becomes the title sponsor of UT athletics?

I think that's why they will hire him. UT is experiencing a donut glut.

This is actually sad to me, because first and foremost, what kind of example does this set before the students of these universities? I would see what they could think, "Like would this be ok if we do it and not get caught like they did?" The kids nowadays have some pretty interesting thoughts somtimes.
I am not sure if every coach and AD in the country shouldn't be checked out for any horrible skeletons in their closets. I really don't know how you could clean these schools up. Setting the example for our kids has to change someway I think but I just purely am not sure how?  :o RTR!

Yep, he should be well versed on the dos and the don'ts of the NCAA, and he's got Gene Marsh as his Advisor/Mentor/Lawyer.

Good. Maybe he and Tressel will be seen walking down the highway picking up aluminum cans.
