Title: Softball Ranked Sixth in Preseason USA Today/NFCA Poll Post by: pmull on January 21, 2014, 02:01:42 PM The softball season starts Feb. 7.
Quote Alabama softball is ranked sixth in the first USA Today/NFCA Poll of the 2014 season, released Tuesday. The top ten teams all finished last season in the top ten, though the order has changed heading into 2014. Last season's runner-up Tennessee is the preseason favorite, earning 729 points. Defending national champion Oklahoma earned 17 first-place votes, the most of any team, but fell just short of the Lady Vols as the Sooners sit at the No. 2 spot. Washington, Florida, Michigan, Alabama, Arizona State, Oregon, Nebraska and Texas round out the rest of the top ten. The Crimson Tide jumped four spots since the final 2013 poll, where they finished 10th. Among the top ten teams, Alabama made the largest jump from last year to this year. http://www.rolltide.com/sports/w-softbl/spec-rel/012114aac.html Title: Re: Softball Ranked Sixth in Preseason USA Today/NFCA Poll Post by: N.AL-Tider on January 21, 2014, 02:06:35 PM Just another sport where the SEC is dominating... Just wait until the Big10 Commish figures this one out...

Also 7 out of top 17.Can't wait for the season to start and warmer weather. I would much rather see them have to play to get to the top rather than be ranked on top and try to hold on to it.
There will be a few teams in the SEC that will surprise some folks this year and Auburn could be one of them with their new head coach. I don't think the usual doormats will be so easy anymore. Title: Re: Softball Ranked Sixth in Preseason USA Today/NFCA Poll Post by: pmull on January 22, 2014, 08:33:20 AM The schedule seems odd to me this year. We play only 8 SEC series. We have USCe, LSU, Arky & UGA at home. We visit Ole Miss, UF, Miss St and Mizzou. We do not play UT, Kentucky, Auburn, Vandy or A&M. We do have a single non-SEC game against Auburn in Montgomery.
Baseball plays 10 SEC series. Title: Re: Softball Ranked Sixth in Preseason USA Today/NFCA Poll Post by: cbbama99 on January 22, 2014, 11:53:19 AM The schedule seems odd to me this year. I especially hate that we do not play UT, since that has become a really good series. I especially hate that we do not play UT, since that has become a really good series. Looking back we only played 8 SEC series last year. Two years ago we played a quick mid week double header against UT and Auburn that counted as SEC games. That gave us 10 SEC series. I wish we still did that. Title: Re: Softball Ranked Sixth in Preseason USA Today/NFCA Poll Post by: Jamos on January 22, 2014, 06:01:29 PM I think the SEC is trying to get everyone a good schedule but also keep from getting them eliminated from any post season play because of playing in such a tough conference and beating each other up. I can see the value in playing a lot of non conference games but against quality opponents.
