Ultimately, it was in Steen's best interest to go under the knife in December because it provides him enough time to heal up in time to work out in front of NFL scouts in April. He won't participate in any events at this weekend's Combine and likely won't be available at Alabama's first Pro Day in March, but he should be good to go April 8.

"Seeing them out there in the Sugar Bowl and me not being out there with them (was toughest)," Steen said. "I was trying my best to talk to the guys and keep them hyped up. Like Cyrus (Kouandjio) told me earlier, it wasn't the same out there without me."
