Title: Releford Named First Team All-SEC, Hale Earns All-Freshman Honors Post by: pmull on March 11, 2014, 11:40:04 AM Releford has been a great player for us. He always played hard on both ends of the floor. I hope he gets a chance in the NBA. The kid can play.
Shannon Hale will be a good player for us. He had a very good freshman year. Quote Senior guard Trevor Releford was selected to the Southeastern Conference First Team, while Shannon Hale earned SEC All-Freshman Team honors according to a vote of the league's head coaches, which was announced on Tuesday. It marks the second consecutive season Releford has been named to the league's first team and it is the fourth consecutive year he has been tabbed as an all-conference performer. He earned Freshman All-SEC honors in 2011 and second team recognition in 2012. Quote Hale has had a stellar first season with the Crimson Tide, averaging 8.6 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. During SEC play, the Johnson City, Tenn., native has reached double figures in 11 of UA's 18 league games and ranks eighth among SEC freshmen in scoring (11.6 ppg) and is ninth in rebounding (4.1 rpg). After seeing limited action during non-conference play during his freshman season, Hale ranks second on the team points and rebounds per game, while connecting 44 percent from the floor and 35 percent from beyond the arc in league play. http://www.rolltide.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/031114aac.html Title: Re: Releford Named First Team All-SEC, Hale Earns All-Freshman Honors Post by: pmull on March 11, 2014, 11:42:46 AM Releford has to be one of those players opposing teams thinks has been at Alabama for 6 or 7 years. He has been a fixture in our starting line up for 4 years. That is rare.
Title: Re: Releford Named First Team All-SEC, Hale Earns All-Freshman Honors Post by: 2Stater on March 11, 2014, 11:50:41 AM Hale is going to be a very good player, barring injury. We will sure miss Releford next year. I hope he can make it to the next level.
I'm actually pretty excited about next year with the talent we have coming back and the new guys coming in. The personality of the team should be very different than what we've seen the last couple of years. Let's hope the chemistry is better, too. He just isn't quick enough, especially his first step. Plus, I don't think he is even 6' tall. :dunno: Title: Re: Releford Named First Team All-SEC, Hale Earns All-Freshman Honors Post by: pmull on March 11, 2014, 12:42:50 PM Releford has been a great player for us. If given a chance he could prove everyone wrong. I hate to see him go over seas to play and we never hear from him again. At under 6' he scored more points in the paint in his career than most big men do. Plus, he has developed an outside shot and plays defense. They need to add a little muscle. I think both got better as the year went on with my limited watching. Question for those who know. Is their any chance of Pollard coming back? How involved was he in the situation that caused his problem?

If he was a dead-eye shot on 3 pointers and was quicker, his size wouldn't matter, but he just doesn't have the quickness. Maybe he can play with his brother overseas. His rebounding is more an indictment of the lack of rebounding and the lack of teaching the likes of Engstrom, Taylor, & Hale some rebounding techniques. Obasohan, at 6'1" was also a big time rebounder. Sad. :popcorn2: Title: Re: Releford Named First Team All-SEC, Hale Earns All-Freshman Honors Post by: pmull on March 11, 2014, 03:33:34 PM Hale and Taylor should make a good duo in the coming years. Rumor has it that Rick Stansbury (Former Miss St Coach) is looking for work and Pollard is going to follow him. Stansbury is lobbying for the Auburn job that most people think will come open. I had not heard this about Stansbury. Not sure Auburn wants his baggage with strong hints of paying for recruits especially since Aubarn would never do such a thing. :eyeroll: Title: Re: Releford Named First Team All-SEC, Hale Earns All-Freshman Honors Post by: pmull on March 11, 2014, 04:09:18 PM Hale and Taylor should make a good duo in the coming years. Auburn would gain instant credibility with Pearl. :popcorn2: Title: Re: Releford Named First Team All-SEC, Hale Earns All-Freshman Honors Post by: pmull on March 11, 2014, 07:20:29 PM Hale and Taylor should make a good duo in the coming years. I don't think anyone will hire Pearl this year. Next year someone will hire themselves a good coach. |
