Title: NCAA Tournament Friday Games
Post by: Marshal Dillon on March 21, 2014, 12:02:59 AM
After what happened on Thursday, I doubt we can surpass the excitement and upsets we saw. Anyway, here we go:

The first game is Mercer v. Duke. Mercer is an outside shooting, fast-paced team who can produce another upset on CBS @ 11:15 am. Other interesting early games include Nebraska v Baylor, & Stanford v. New Mexico. The 1:45 pm game between Tennessee & UMass is another interesting early game.

The Stanford game was the hardest of these for me to pick.  That probably means I'll get it right and miss the rest.

If you went with Stanford, then you're good. I picked NM.

I picked Stanford, Duke, Baylor, & Tennessee to win the early games. After yesterday, none of these picks are safe.

I have a special interest in the Baylor - Nebraska game. I lived in Grand Island Nebraska for 6 years in the late 80's early 90's. It was in the middle of Wimp's run to several Sweet 16's. I always gave them a hard time because they had never in the schools history won a game in the NCAA Tourney. Here it is 20 years later and they still have not won an NCAA game yet.

I grew to hate all things University of Nebraska related while living there and still do to this day.

Yeah, I've never been a fan of Nebraska and Bo Pelini makes it easy to keep not liking them.

I consider Mercer to be a mirror image of Duke. The have good ball movement, great outside shooting, lots of energy, they seem to know what they want to do on the court, and a pesky defense.

Duke is playing in Raleigh, NC. Do they ever have to leave home in the first weekend of the Tourney?

Yeah, I thought the same thing. Year in & year out, they "somehow" end up playing Tourney games in North Carolina. It's a total scandal.

Mercer is like a rat terrier. It grabs hold of your pants leg and won't let go. Giving Duke fits so far.
Duke 54 Mercer 51 9:00 left in game.

Stanford beat New Mexico 58-53. That was a mild upset that I got right.

# 11 UT up on # 6 UMass 48-38 with 14:00 to go. I got UT. If UT holds on my early games look good even with the Duke upset.

Some interesting games coming up. Eastern Kentucky v. Kansas could be another surprise. EKU has several senior players and they played inspired BB during their tournament. Other good games coming up soon are:

Oklahoma State v. Gonzaga ( picked OKSU)
George Washington v. Memphis (Memphis)

Tonight there are FOUR intriguing games.

The Duke upset really shocked me. I would never have thought Mercer could beat them that close to home. RTR!

Fire the Duke coach.

The man can't coach.

Amazing the competitiveness of most of the teams, whether a 15 seed or a 3rd seed. Good games.

No doubt. Good thing he's been to the Final Four or they might have shot him for such a shoddy performance. Anyone have the phone number to the Bama AD office. I like the list of available coaches with all these firings.
