Title: Missouri Basketball hires Ken Anderson of Central Missouri as Coach.
Post by: pmull on April 29, 2014, 08:48:23 AM
This could turn out to be a good hire. He is a Missouri man and should be very loyal. This is his dream job. However, it is very risky hiring a Division II coach. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.

Quote
Central Missouri's Kim Anderson has reached an agreement to become the coach at Missouri, the school announced.

Anderson is a Missouri alumnus. He will replace Frank Haith, who left last week for Tulsa, and takes over a program that lost its top three players.

He will be introduced by the school Tuesday at an 11 a.m. ET news conference.

Anderson was the NABC national coach of the year this season, leading Central Missouri (30-5) to the 2014 Division II championship with a team that had 10 new players and only one returning player who averaged more than 4.7 points per game the previous season. The national title was the first for the Mules since 1984.

Anderson, 58, has been an assistant for Norm Stewart at Missouri and also at Baylor but has never been a head coach in Division I.

I still don't know why Haith left a tier one program for a 2nd tier one. Maybe he felt unappreciated or didn't feel like he had the proper support.

I don't think the fans or Administration was happy with him. He took over a program that Mike Anderson had in good shape. He started out good but got worse each year. He never won a NCAA Tournament game and went to the NIT this year. His baggage from Miami also hurt him.

2011   30-5   14-4   NCAA First Round
2012   23-11  11-7  NCAA First Round
2013   23-12   9-9   NIT Second Round

Missouri expected more and Haith felt the heat and jumped at the first chance which happened to be mid-major Tulsa.

He is stepping into the SEC where wisdom and knowledge comes to mind. Is this the place for his first venture? We shall see. RTR!
