When a rush of water poured into the basement, the walls collapsed on them. He was able to push the wall up so his girlfriend could get out from under the wall, but he was not able to do so. When the responders arrived, they were able to pull his girlfriend out with no injuries; however, John had died. No disrespect intended but, the term "Hero" is frequently used to describe our police and fire fighters but honestly, they are paid to do what they do. This young man did what he did to save another without any pay whatsoever. He truly is a hero...but I followed this story as best I could ...
