It's no wonder the Longhorns coaches were making some noise earlier this week about how their offense would produce a QB ready for the NFL. 

Even without Manziel, Aggies get two top ten draft picks.

The ESPN guys are talking about what a good job the Browns are doing with the draft. Their reasoning is based on the draft picks they got for Trent Richardson trade. They had three first round picks this year. They made another trade and get two first round picks next year. They should get better. The Browns sold 1500 season tickets today.

I am not convinced Manziel will be a bust in the NFL. He was one of the most exciting college players I have ever seen. Only time will tell if it translates to the NFL. I am pulling for him.

I was wondering why AJ fell so far. I heard what the commentators said but they didn't elaborate. I thought how could AJ people wrong he has always been well mannered it seems. RTR!

The only thing I have heard is that many NFL brass thought AJ was "too cocky." Now, how that is different from about 75-80 percent of the players that are in the NFL, I have no idea.

Well I wonder what kind of tutor Andy Dalton will be? RTR!

Funny how NFL teams will overlook all sorts of character issues if a guy has elite physical talent but will call a guy who won two national championships and only lost three regular season games, all to top #10 opponents and two who went on to play in the BCSCG, "too cocky".

On a more positive note, I'm very excited about the Saints drafting Vinnie.  He should be an excellent special teams player and a solid backup for Kenny Vacarro, last year's first round pick out of Texas.  Vacarro had concussion issues in year 1, so Vinnie might get some playing time.

I think you would want your QB to be "cocky," i.e. confident.  But AJ sent out a tweet, later deleted, that might have drawn some negative attention.

Mostly I think he is viewed as a solid backup and developmental player, not ready to start right away in the NFL, due to his size and arm strength.  But still, I think he is better than some of the QBs taken ahead of him, and the Bengals got a steal.

I understand that the Sam story is a story, but ESPN's fawning coverage and efforts to paint Sam as the bravest man who's ever lived and Jackie Robinson of our generation were more than a little irritating. 

Coming out as gay in a culture that celebrates homosexuality is about as brave as announcing you're a Republican in Alabama.

Bingo, you nailed it. It's what I call phony liberal courage. Courage implies you have something to lose, like your health (a beating), your life, your job, etc. A soldier in combat or even in training displays real courage, Civil Rights protesters in the 1950's & mid 1960's, risked life & limb. Liberals now consider courage stating the liberal mantra, like attacking Christianity, but staying mum on Islamic extremism.

Well that explains a lot.  Did the NFL get the memo that AJ is NOT gay?  Did they see the picture of AJ and his future wife eating cupcakes?

And this might be why teams didn't draft him.  Even forgetting the media circus, is he going to play the gay card every time something doesn't go his way? 

I guarantee you that all those NFL teams who passed on him were not the least impressed with the fact that he was "SEC Defensive Player of the Year." I think I heard somewhere that the Big-10 defensive player of the year was not even drafted. POY does not necessarily mean BEST player. Besides, my guess is not many people were even aware of this guy before he came out.

Sam was a disaster at the NFL Combine. He's too small to play DE (his college position) and too slow to play LB. He ran a 4.91 40 yard dash (SLOW!), bench pressed 225# 17 times but a 5' 10" 188# teammate
did it 25 times, so he has poor upper body strength, too.
