Title: Baseball: Alabama at LSU
Post by: pmull on May 10, 2014, 07:31:32 AM
The Friday night opener was rained out. They will play two games today. The first game will be at 12:00 and will be televised by CSS. The second game will be tonight at 7:00. Sunday's game will start at 1:00 and be carried by CSS.

Game one starters will be Spencer Turnbull for the Tide and Arron Nola for LSU. Nola may be the best pitcher in the league and is projected to be a top 10 draft pick. He is 7-1 with a 1.58 ERA. Justin Kamplain will pitch Game 2 for Bama.

Bama is 31-18 (13-11) and LSU is 35-13-1 (13-10-1)

Bama loses a pitchers duel in Game 1 by the score of 2-0. Arron Nola pitched a 4 hit shutout for LSU. He is the best college pitcher I have seen in a long time. I can see why they project him a top 10 pick in the draft. Turnbull pitched a good game for Bama. He gave up 2 runs on 6 hits. Very rare for both starting pitchers to go the distance but that happened today.

Bama   0 4 0
LSU     2 6 0

Game 2 is tonight at 7:00.

Game 2

Alabama wins 5-1. Justin Kamplain pitches a complete game 4 hitter.

Bama 5 8 1
LSU   1 4 2

That was a tough loss for the Tiders in the first game and to come back and win the second game will really help the team in the tournament selections. They could really help their tournament status if they could win today and the series.

If we win today, take 2 of 3 from State next week and win a minimum of 1 game in the SEC Tournament we should be a host. We will be a # 2 seed at worst.

Game 3 is still in a weather delay. The SEC has waived the 4:00 Sunday start rule since classes have ended for the semester.

Game 3 has been cancelled. We end up with a 1-1 split in the 2 game series.

We play JSU on Tuesday and host Miss State next weekend to end the regular season.

After a weekend split on the road with LSU our RPI is #21.

We go to JSU (#102) on Tuesday and host Miss State (#42) this weekend. The MSU series is huge we need to win that series to remain in the running for a host spot in the NCAA Regional.

Note: Regional hosts advance 80% of the time according to CMG.
