Title: Bama bb rebounds from early loss to Kennesaw State; in finals of Regional ...
Post by: Jamos on May 30, 2014, 08:07:28 PM
Kennesaw State starter Travis Bergen threw 8.2 innings to lead the Owls to a 1-0 victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide in the opening round of the Tallahassee Regional on Friday afternoon from Dick Howser Stadium. Alabama will play the loser of the Florida State versus Georgia Southern in a regional elimination game tomorrow at 12 p.m. CT.

I know this is disheartening but things aren't going well in Tallahassee right now for the home team. Georgia Southern is leading Fla State in the top of the 9th inning 4-0. Fla State has 2 hits for the game.

Who would have ever thought Bama and Fla State would play each other in the losers bracket. ???

You can make it 7-0 now in the bottom of the 9th. Georgia Southern has 16 hits, Fla State 2

There are some other surprising scores as well, check the link.

It's a final of the Fla State game 7-0 Georgia Southern. Would it not be nice if Bama could knock Fla State out of their own tournament tomorrow. :popcorn2:

We are on a monumental implosion. I think FSU takes it out on us tomorrow. What a disappointing end to the season after so much promise just a few weeks ago.

Just curious for those really in know with the baseball team: how much of a leash does Gaspard have? Any chance his seat is getting really warm, or does he still have time?

I don't know, but apparently, he is a good recruiter, and for 2/3 of the year he had things looking really good. But you have to question some of the pitching decisions he went with over the last 2 weeks. The bats going stone cold didn't help either.

I'm not sure I'm ready to give up on Gaspard, but he needs to learn how to coach the entire year. After the Tennessee game collapse, it seems either he lost his mojo or the team did. Maybe both. They need to learn how to overcome adversity.

We seem to be in a vicious circle when it comes to some Bama coaches. First, Grant & now Gaspard. Tide baseball has had 3 losing SEC records in 5 years and another year where we were 15-15. We cap this year off with a collapse late in the season. How many more chances does he get? What's the point of no return?       Just wondering.

Whoa, I didn't know he was on such a hot seat, but his record in the SEC is definitely unacceptable. Personally, I think some fresh blood is needed. The SEC is the best baseball conference and we cannot afford to fall behind.

Apparently that was Castillo, who blew a lead last year in Tallahassee against Troy in the 9th.  So Gaspard thought he would give him a chance at redemption?

Now Bama is in a world of hurt, FSU has THREE runs, bases loaded on one freaking hit.

If Bama loses tomorrow, I don't think Gaspard will be back next year.

I don't think GMG job was on the line in the regional. Is this your opinion or is it the unspoken rumor in Tuscaloosa?

I think we showed a lot of improvement this year. The end of the season was murders row with our schedule. Most people saw a big dip coming. We caught a hot team in UK in the single elimination SEC game. We are young with tons of talent coming back next year. CMG has also been recruiting very well and has another good class coming in. I thought his job was on solid ground. I feel sure it is since we are now in the regional finals needing only one more win to advance to the Super's.

We had two 9 inning complete game wins by our stating pitchers today. That is extremely rare. We only had 4 complete game starts all year until today. A tip of the ball cap to Bramlett and Guilbeau. They both pitched great games.

There was some discussion floating around last Tuesday night and it wasn't pro Gaspard and Grant. It was the opinion of why the University should spend so much money on a new stadium when they can't win enough games to even say there is a nice crowd at the games anymore. They were saying there are more fans sitting outside (free) the stadium than there are in the stadium (paying). I still feel feel if had Bama lost that 6-0 lead in the 9th inning yesterday and lost the game, Gaspard might very well have been on his last leg as coaching for Bama. This loss would have ended their post season play. Personally, I don't think that Gaspard will ever coach a game in the new stadium unless he can turn the program around, especially in post season play next season. If they can find a way to win tomorrow, it will sure help his situation by making it to a Super Regional. They were also saying CAG is on his last leg and things will have to improve this season, post season play, or he is toast.  :dunno:

The year did not end the way any of us hoped it would. We faded late in the SEC season when our schedule was rear loaded. Still we were ranked most of the year. We had some big wins. We made it to the 7th game of the regional. Less than 25 teams in the country made it as far as we did.

We have a lot coming back. We will get hurt by juniors leaving that get drafted. I would love to see Ben Moore, Wass, Turnbull and Kamplain come back but I doubt that happens. We have another good recruiting class coming in. I expect us to be better again next year.

I think CMG is safe. He has us headed in the right direction. You guys need to stay off his azz.

A few things to consider before hopping on the bandwagon to fire CMG.

Ten SEC teams made the NCAA Tournament. Only two, Ole Miss and Vandy, advanced to super regional's next weekend.

Arky, USCe and the SEC's top team Florida got knocked out early. Kentucky made it to the regional final but could not force the "if necessary" game 7. LSU, A&M, Miss State and Bama all lost game 7.

Do we admit we had a pretty good year or do we fire 12 SEC coaches?

Anyone that follows SEC baseball could look at our schedule and tell the last four SEC series was extremely difficult. The fact we faded at the end of the year was not a surprise. We were very close to being an outstanding team. If we had won 2-3 more of those games we would have hosted a regional. Next year I expect to host a regional and I think we have the team and coach that can do it.

We had a much better year than anyone is giving this team credit for.

First of all, it's not a bandwagon. He has badly underperformed for 5 years as head coach. He has 3 losing SEC records and one .500 SEC record at 15-15. His SEC record is 65-75 after FIVE years. I just don't get why some fans just can't let go of these coaches who have shown they can not win big, even after 4 or 5 years. It doesn't matter if they recruit the best players in their sport, they do not develop them or use them properly resulting in the players being blamed for not winning.

In 5 years as head coach CMG has been to a NCAA Regional 4 times and Super Regional once. IMO this was his best team and we will be better next year. I think our program is headed in a very good direction. I also think the new facility is what we need to get to the next level.

If you saw what Jamos writes, the money people are wondering why pay for new facilities when you can't fill the one you have plus you aren't winning. Tough questions.

Maybe some people have not noticed but we have been playing in one of the worst stadiums in the league. We need a new facility regardless of who the coach is.

Kennesaw State lost Game 1 of the Super Regional to host Louisville 5-3.

Kennesaw State is a hot team. Before yesterday's loss they ended the season with a run of 26-2. One of those losses was to Bama in the regional.

I hope KS can rebound and win the next two and get to Omaha.
