Title: Men's Basketball Announces 2014-15 Non-Conference Slate Post by: pmull on August 10, 2014, 07:22:43 AM Another very tough non-conference schedule. Going 10-3 or better would be good. Anything less than 10-3 will be a disappointment. Best home games are Southern Miss, South Florida and UCLA. True road games at Wichita St and Xavier. Neutral site games with Iowa St, Maryland or Arizona St.
Along with our SEC schedule we will play one of the most difficult schedules in the country. Quote Nov. 14 TOWSON# Nov. 17 WESTERN CAROLINA# Nov. 20 SOUTHERN MISS Nov. 24 vs. Iowa State% Nov. 25 vs. Maryland/Arizona State% Dec. 2 SOUTH FLORIDA Dec. 6 at Xavier Dec. 13 TENNESSEE TECH Dec. 16 at Wichita State Dec. 19 STILLMAN Dec. 21 APPALACHIAN STATE Dec. 28 UCLA Jan. 2 NORTH FLORIDA # CBE Classic Opening Rounds (Tuscaloosa) % CBE Classic Finals (Kansas City, Mo.) http://www.rolltide.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/080814aab.html Title: Re: Men's Basketball Announces 2014-15 Non-Conference Slate Post by: ricky023 on August 10, 2014, 08:33:11 AM Hey I like the schedule because if we come through 1 loss or no loss we are headed for a tournament year. I just want to win the SEC championship. RTR!
Title: Re: Men's Basketball Announces 2014-15 Non-Conference Slate Post by: Marshal Dillon on August 10, 2014, 11:22:52 AM Not exactly a killer schedule, except for UCLA, Iowa St, Wichita State, with solid teams in Xavier and Arizona St./Maryland. Southern Miss. is very intriguing. I like the balance of this schedule but we have to win against some of these teams. I think we must win at least 3 games against them.

It is a good mix of cupcakes and good teams. I think it is good enough for us to have a SOS of 25 or better at the end of the year.
Interesting comments MD. I think you got Iowa St in the wrong conference. They are Big 12 not Big Ten. Yep, I always get Iowa & Iowa State confused with their conference. I was checking Iowa State out and they are AWESOME! I think we can beat S. Miss., Xavier, & maybe Az. State. If we don't beat at least 3 of the decent/good teams, you can forget the NCAA Tourney. The committee will ignore us. :tinfoil: Title: Re: Men's Basketball Announces 2014-15 Non-Conference Slate Post by: Jamos on August 11, 2014, 05:41:19 PM I talked with a friend of mine that is close to the team and he watched them scrimmage Saturday. He said he liked what he saw and thinks the team will show a lot of improvement this year. Hopefully he is right.

We will have depth for the first time in awhile. I also think we can put 5 scorers on the floor at once. We have not had that in years. I am looking forward to watching them play this year. I think we will be much better. I think we will be much better. We have gone 5 years under Grant with maybe 1 decent scorer & no real outside shooting. My pragmatism just won't let me think he will suddenly develop 5 scorers in one year. Freshman and JUCO transfers usually have a learning curve of at least one year. If we can have 2 reliable scorers, an inside presence, and some D, we could be much improved. :popcorn2: Title: Re: Men's Basketball Announces 2014-15 Non-Conference Slate Post by: Jamos on August 12, 2014, 07:37:37 PM This is a new season, what happened the last 5 years is water over the dam and nothing can change it. I'm not pleased with those five years but I understand a lot of the circumstances that caused so many of the teams problems, but again that is bygones.
I do feel that if things don't improve this year there probably will be a change but that is just my opinion. But until that point and time gets here, I'm going to treat this season with a lot of optimism and hope I am right in feeling that way. RTR!! Title: Re: Men's Basketball Announces 2014-15 Non-Conference Slate Post by: pmull on August 12, 2014, 08:09:08 PM I am an eternal optimist when it comes to Alabama sports. I always expect the Tide to win regardless of the sport. With that said I really like our roster this year. We have a good mix of experienced players (Randolph, Cooper, Hale, Taylor & Obasohan), two transfers that fit our immediate needs (Tarrant PG, Kessens F) and a good incoming freshman class.
No doubt about it CAG has to win this year. However, there have been so many letdowns the last 5 years, even the last 10 years, it's hard to maintain that optimism. I am really looking forward to our upcoming football and basketball seasons. :popcorn2: Title: Re: Men's Basketball Announces 2014-15 Non-Conference Slate Post by: McBaman on August 12, 2014, 11:22:47 PM FWIW...I'm kinda with Marshall on this one. Five years of "CAG hope" has not resulted in a whole lot. Time to see it on the court, or time for CAG to move on.
There are always reasons for hope. But now is the time for measurable results. Just MHO.... |
