Title: QB race
Post by: bama87 on August 16, 2014, 04:02:53 PM
Does the news from today's scrimmage worry anyone? I for one am concerned that there is no separation.

@CrimsonWalsh: Saban on Qs: Both guys had their moments but inconsistent. Blake Sims a little more comfortable, but no one has won job yet.

Even if Saban has made a decision, we wouldn't know it till game time.  I think he wants to encourage both the improve as much as possible.  If Coker is to be the guy, he still has work to do, and shouldn't be permitted to get too comfortable, or let him just walk in and take the job without a fight.

I would not doubt if he starts Sims and then brings in Coker and keeps it that way until someone establishes a leadership position....but I am just a RTR fan sitting on the sidelines, and I have no clue why I should second guess CNS!

No QB stats from today's scrimmage. CNS is playing this QB battle close to the vest. It reminds me of 2011 when AJ and Simms went two games into the season. AJ was announced the starter after the Penn State game. AJ did ok. I am sure whoever is eventually named the starter will do fine this year as well.

I don't know if there will be another scrimmage so it looks like Sims will start the WVA game with Coker coming in in the 2nd qtr.  Then whoever has a hot hand will start 3rd qtr.

Just think CNS will go with the guy that is most familiar with the offense to start the game.

But back to OP's comment, yea...this doesn't give me a comfortable feeling.

I am not concerned.

As I stated in another thread I am most concerned with the defensive side of the ball.

With the running backs and tight ends that BAMA will put on the field there is no reason for the QB to need to throw more than 10 yards down field.

I would prefer a mobile QB with an average arm to a gunslinger with a limited ability to run outside of the pocket.

The decision making process of either will be the most significant factor in a game.
