Saban not ready to name starting QB
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama coach Nick Saban isn't ready to determine who his starting quarterback will be when the second-ranked Crimson Tide open their season against West Virginia on Saturday. In fact, he said he isn't in a position to say whether Blake Sims and Jake Coker will both see the field in Atlanta.

"We're going to continue to rep both guys," Saban said Monday. "We feel like both guys have done a good job. Obviously someone has to start the game, so we'll make that decision sometime this week.

"Whatever pitcher starts the game isn't necessarily going to pitch nine innings," Saban said.

It's an awkward situation.

I am thinking (duh) that if any newer player gets ranked above Sims as the starting quarterback.....he will have to prove it first on the field with fans watching just like McCarron proved during the first game or so that he was the better quarterback.

My prediction is that Sims will start....

He must be eyeing the Braves manager position for next season! It was a great run while it lasted folks! :D

That just tells me that they will both play. I know that some people think that 2 QB's = none, but we might just have a legitimate 2 headed monster. I guess we'll find out Saturday.  :popcorn2:

Was anybody in Bryant-Denny for UCLA in 2001, when after a year of speculation Tyler Watts AND Andrew Zow were both announced as the starter five minutes before kickoff?

Hopefully Sims and Coker are a step above those two.   :lol2:
No, wasn't there.  But I'll bet Jamos was!

I was there too.  I think Sims and Coker are probably a little better, and I know we have much, much better talent surrounding them.

Actually I think Watts would have done just fine if he'd had better players around him.

It is actually pretty smart not naming the starting QB.  West V now has to prepare for two different types of QB.  One is a running threat while the other seems to be a pocket passer.  They have to look at the limited film of Sims from last year and then have to search thru FSU video to get thing son Coker.

Quite true. That's why I have referenced the 2 headed monster. It would be a nightmare for teams to prepare for.

On the other hand, they could just all-out blitz like VT did last year.  That's always a good strategy against a young or inexperienced QB.

Run, pass, blitz, no blitz, it doesn't matter.  They are still going to lose.  98-0.  Which reminds me...

There are ways to beat that, though. Nuss didn't do a very good job of adjusting to many defensive schemes. I'm hoping that it will be different with Kiffin.
