Title: Ole Miss football connection with religion investigated. Post by: Chechem on September 05, 2014, 01:24:56 PM http://thedmonline.com/group-requests-records-about-football-religious-services/
Quote A national non-theistic organization has requested records concerning religious practices associated with The University of Mississippi football program. Sam Grover, staff attorney for the Freedom From Religion Foundation, sent an open records request to the university on Wednesday after reading an article that ran in The Washington Post on Aug. 29. The article highlighted the role of religion in college football in the South. Grover provided a copy of the letter to The Daily Mississippian. “We would like to examine certain records related to chaplain John Powell and The University of Mississippi (‘University’) football program,” Grover wrote. “For the purposes of this request, ‘Football Program’ means the university football team, which includes all coaches and football personnel, paid or unpaid, who regularly access the team’s facilities.” ... Really? Football is a religion! :dunno: Title: Re: Ole Miss football connection with religion investigated. Quote The Washington Post reported that every Sunday during the school year, members of the Ole Miss football team and head coach Hugh Freeze attend an optional Fellowship of Christian Athletes worship service led by Football Chaplain John Powell in the Manning Center. Players are not required to attend the weekly meetings or participate in devotionals and team prayers but are encouraged by coaches to join. Freeze is publicly a devout Christian, often using his Twitter account to share Bible verses with his 73,000 plus followers... I knew Ole Miss was in trouble after this guy gave the pre-game rant. :lol2: Title: Re: Ole Miss football connection with religion investigated. Quote The Washington Post reported that every Sunday during the school year, members of the Ole Miss football team and head coach Hugh Freeze attend an optional Fellowship of Christian Athletes worship service led by Football Chaplain John Powell in the Manning Center. It is kind of hard to take a foundation serious about getting freedom from religion when they are constantly interjecting themselves into religious things that have absolutely nothing to do with them. How many members or supporters of the Freedom From Religion Foundation are on the Ole Miss football team? My guess: 0. How many players or other people associated with the football team contacted the Freedom From Religion Foundation for help with this obvious oppression? My guess: 0. If they want freedom from religion they could start by not jumping into the middle of everything in society involving religion. Quote “Just because it’s unconstitutional doesn’t mean that we can swoop in as an organization based out of Madison, Wisconsin, and sue,” he said. “We need someone there who’s affected.” Does that sound like someone who is trying to break free from religion? No. That is someone who is trying to force their own personal beliefs about religion onto the rest of society. "Hey all of you football players down at Ole Miss who pray and go to church, you can't do that! You represent the university, and the university is a state government institution, and therefore there has to be separation of church and state, bla bla bla, and ifso fatso you have to be an atheist like me." :eyeroll: What would our founding fathers think? How can yankees just holler about something they nothing about. I can pray for their soul but I can also pray their organization falls. I have that right.
These kind of people got prayer out of schools and Bible reading. They are dangerous and scarey to some. JMHO. RTR! Title: Re: Ole Miss football connection with religion investigated.
