Title: Gregg Doyel: ‘Everybody’s Fed Up With Saban’
Post by: bama57 on September 26, 2014, 01:04:55 PM
Nick Saban got surly with the media this week – surprise, surprise – while fielding questions about offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin.
Saban was criticized in some circles for hiring Kiffin earlier this year and didn’t shy away from lecturing the media on how well Kiffin has fared four games into the season. Saban said he was “beat up like a drum” when he hired Kiffin, but that now “all of a sudden it’s great.”
Saban also got defensive when asked about his communication with Kiffin and whether their seemingly different personalities have clashed.
“You guys don’t have any consequences for what you say or do,” Saban testily told the media. “Our stuff ends up out there on the field on Saturday, and if it ain’t done right, there’s consequences – in front of a whole bunch of people.”
Whoa, easy there, Nick.
Do we, as college football fans, ever reach a point where we get fed up with Saban and his attitude? Or does he win too many games for us to care?
“Well, I think everybody’s sort of fed up with him, but there’s a couple things there,” CBSSports.com national columnist Gregg Doyel said on The John Feinstein Show. “(First of all), it’s low-hanging fruit. Saban is what he is and has been what he’s been for a long time. We remember the story in Miami where we stepped over the guy that fainted right before his eyes. Saban’s not warm and cuddly, and we all know that. There’s almost no point in ripping him anymore because we’ve all been there and done that. But he plays to the crowd without even trying to.”
To be fair, when Saban hired Kiffin, few people questioned Kiffin’s offensive prowess. Rather, they questioned his personality and attitude – and, in some ways, his maturity and professionalism.
“From what I can tell, if he wants to win you over, he can do it,” Doyel said of Kiffin. “I went to L.A. for other reasons (and) went to talk to Lane about what a clown he was at Tennessee. By the end of the interview, he had won me over because what he had done was fallen on the sword – to me, anyway. (He said), ‘You’re right. I was a clown. If I was the AD at USC, I wouldn’t have hired myself. I was a total jerk (and) out of control.’

This article has little to do with Nick Saban's aggressiveness or Lane Kiffin being deserving of another chance at a great program, this article is about sports writers' gargantuan egos and that they feel deserving of notice by simply opening their mouths (so to speak).
This is a sports writer's roundabout way of demanding attention simply because this sports writer thinks his opinion is that worthy of note.
Nick Saban has accomplished much, you've done NOTHING but spew hot air and want similar recognition for it.
Get over yourself.

another comment!

Coach Sabin is a coaching genius. He don't take no crape off anyone especially the media people that ask such foolish question. Most coaches are jealous of Nick Sabin
and the SEC because we play tough football and Nick Sabin and his team are hard to beat. Well get use to it because we are going to win more championships and the coach and the Crimson Tide will all ways be making football history. Do you really think our coach and the Alabama Nation really care about your opinion. The whole Alabama Nation is laughing about your stupid article.

I was reading this and CNS is right. These reporters can write or say whatever and I don't see any repercussions on them but Coaches lose a game and these guys act like they knew that would happen 10 years ago. The only 2 reporters I ever trusted was Keith Jackson and Tony Barnhart. JMHPO. RTR!

Good post Ricky! What gets me is the networks know how much the audience appreciated Kieth Jackson, but, the networks can't seem to find any other announcers as intelligent !

Doyel has always had a ha*don for Alabama and Saban. I think most everybody knows what a joke he is. All ego, no substance.

National sports writers do not like Coach Saban. Since he has been at Alabama the consistent winning is boring to them and does not make for good articles. Sports writer's like underdogs and controversy. CNS is on a pedestal and they can not wait to write about him negatively even if they have to make something up.

Alabama under CNS may not win the championship every year but we are always in the hunt in December. Talking heads do not like that unless it is a Big Ten school or Notre Dame.

The best thing about this is CNS does not give a D*** what they think.

Here's another clown with a point of view.  I mean, I saw Saban's comments and all he really did was answer a question.  I didn't hear him either demean Kiffen or try to take credit from him.

Doing a little research, he seems to be a guy that just likes to stir things up.  By the way he graduated from the University of Florida so it says.

BINGO!!  The love affair for the Big Ten & Notre Dame goes back to the 1920's, 1930's & 1940's. If you look at articles, stories, & books about this era it is just so over the top. They are written as if the Big Ten & Notre Dame are the only real programs that have existed.
