Title: BR: Are Bama Fans Forgetting the Tennessee Rivalry? Post by: pmull on July 13, 2011, 09:21:13 AM When I was young Tenn was our biggest ravilry. We beat the barn almost every year so we did not respect them. Even Coach Bryant did not respect the barn but he did respect Tenn. I did not start to dislike Tenn unlike Fulmer became coach. It is fun to see them suffer through this down cycle but it was more fun to beat their azz when they were at their best.
Quote Few people realize that Alabama has played Tennessee more than any other team in their history. Seventeen more times than Auburn, 18 more than LSU and 35 times more than Ole Miss. The rivalry was once known by its date alone, "The Third Saturday in October." It was the first game that had true rivalry for Alabama. It has seen stretches where wins went back and forth, stretches that went into long streaks by one and then by the other. It's spawned great quotes, like this one by the man who was the "Bear" Bryant of Tennessee: "You never know what a football player is made of until he plays against Alabama." - Former Tennessee Coach Bob Neyland. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/764423-alabama-football-are-bama-fans-forgetting-the-tennessee-rivalry Title: Re: BR: Are Bama Fans Forgetting the Tennessee Rivalry? Post by: ricky023 on July 13, 2011, 09:28:18 AM I can remember back in the 70's we would load up on Sat. evening and go to Cheaha Mt. so we could hear the game on radio. It was much better there was people parked in the sceneic pull-offs listening to the game. It was incredible when Alabama scored and a roar went up on the mountain. You knew who scored down in the valleys. RTR!
Title: Re: BR: Are Bama Fans Forgetting the Tennessee Rivalry? Post by: 2Stater on July 13, 2011, 10:23:48 AM I tried to Google a pic of Bear and the boys smoking cigars in the locker room after kicking some UT azz, but could not find one. To me, there has never been a feeling as good as when we beat UT. My favorite game?.....the one that cost big fat rat Phil Fulmer his job.
RRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLL TTTTTIIIIIIIIIIIDDDDDDDEEEEE!!!!!! Title: Re: BR: Are Bama Fans Forgetting the Tennessee Rivalry? Post by: Hannibal Lecter, MD on July 13, 2011, 10:57:08 AM I think it has died down a lot with the firing of Fulmer and the lack of success Tennessee has had recently. I cannot bring myself to hate them as much now with Dooley as their coach as I did when Fulmer was around.
Auburn, however, I will never forget about. It doesn't matter who their coach is. Title: Re: BR: Are Bama Fans Forgetting the Tennessee Rivalry? Post by: charlesscal on July 14, 2011, 06:54:17 PM ut - 1st

Title: Re: BR: Are Bama Fans Forgetting the Tennessee Rivalry? Post by: Chechem on July 15, 2011, 03:43:25 AM Back about 1970, following a series of UT victories over Alabama, one of the UT players said, "Alabama has forgotten what it means to play Tennessee."
We beat them 11 straight after that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_Saturday_in_October Title: Re: BR: Are Bama Fans Forgetting the Tennessee Rivalry? We beat them 11 straight after that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_Saturday_in_October #+ I remember that well. One of those games I had (let's call it a physical bet) with my girlfriend. Bama stomped UT 42-21 I think it was. Ah memories. :) Title: Re: BR: Are Bama Fans Forgetting the Tennessee Rivalry? Post by: pmull on July 15, 2011, 07:54:49 AM Remember when former center Roger Shultz from the 92 team made the comment "we should have to pax taxes in Tenn because we own them".

Post by: Leewillie on July 15, 2011, 08:06:43 PM Being a Bama grad and living in Tennessee for many years, I can tell you that my disdain for things orange has not abated nor lessened over the years. I actually have to put up with that crap the year round. They are and will always be my most hated team.

Bear hated'em, and I still have images of Peyton leading the band in "Rocky Top" at Legion Field. It's always great to whip the Viles.

I mean, the reaction of the losers is really what this whole thing is all about. |
