Title: Conversation with a Barner
Post by: SeniorTSM on October 15, 2014, 07:39:14 AM
So I was talking with a guy I coach with. (I coach a 7-8 year old team) the guy knows I am a Bama fan, and has told me he is a Auburn fan (although he is from West Virginia). Anyway, he starts telling me it will be the barn and Miss st in the final Championship game. I said what????? He said yeah that no way the barn gets left out of the playoffs and then they would end up playing St.  >:(

I said wait a Minute, the Barn still has to Play Bama and so does St. It was like he had totally written off the Tide. It seems everyone has. Have y’all also noticed this?

Might be a good thing. Nobody gave us a chance in 2008 and we overachieved most of the year, because that motivated us. Maybe that's what will happen now.

The SEC is still wide open & our chances for the Four is, too. We still pretty much control our destiny, with games against Miss. St., A&M, LSU, UT, & Barn. Just keep winning & maybe make no attempt to field punts.

That is true to a point, but Ole Miss must be beaten twice before we will have a chance of going to Atlanta.

The ESPN talking heads are writing us off. David Pollack was the only one defending us.

I don't see us beating Awbren or Miss State this year.  Too many "issues" to resolve to make it happen this season IMO... but I hope I am wrong.

It could be that people are basing their opinions on the team on the field.  Except for a flurry of activity against Florida, to catch up from turnovers, this Bama team hasn't looked very good.  The talent is there, but the mental component (focus) is missing, too many turnovers and penalties.  To win a championship, the ball has to bounce your way sometimes.  Bama players aren't helping -- they're bouncing the football to the other team.

I think it is too soon for talk of championships.  Bama needs to focus on the next game, one game at a time, work on the mental errors, the small things, keep improving, to even have a chance.  What anyone thinks is just clutter.

The door is still open, but Bama will have to shove its way through.

I read somewhere that ole miss only has to lose once and us win out, and it would be a tie with something to do with them playing vanderbilt being a factor..IDK

If Ole Miss loses one game and Bama wins out, then Ole Miss would own the tie breaker, head-to-head win versus Bama.  If there were a 3-way tie, including Bama, Ole Miss and maybe MSSt or the Barn, then the head-to-head factor might not come into play -- it could be highest ranked team.

If head-to-head does not settle the tie breaker the best record among West Division games is next. The highest rank team is the last option for the tie breaker.

I have to address the elephant in the room. I hope everyone realizes that most likely we will have to hope the barn beats Ole Miss.  :-\

It is just a whole lot easier to say that Miss St. needs to beat OM and we need to win out.  In that scenario I think Bama would be the highest ranked team at that point.

You are correct.  I didn't include the possibility of Tennessee beating Ole Miss for its only SEC loss.

I believe there is another factor in the tiebreaker somewhere, way down on the list, that has to do with the team who hasn't been to the championship game in the longest amount of time will go to Atlanta.  That one goes to Ole Miss for sure.

I seriously doubt we will EVER see that tiebreaker used.  Too many others ahead of it to get to that point I think...

Bottom line:  Just win and let the dust settle itself...

Rules:

1. Never converse with Barners, Humpers, or Aubs.

2. They make good targets.

That might be Bama's best chance this year.   :lol2:

I only have one comment for the OP: You VOLUNTARILY talked with a barner and still managed to retain all of your brain cells?

Well, like i said i coach with him, (BTW he is the O coach and it sucks..lol) anyway, I mostly started tuning him out early in the seaon when he told me he was from West Virgina but his buddy got him into watching the barn so now he is a Barn fan....i just looked at him and walked away.LMBO

Then this week he started this crap about how Miss St and the barn were going to meet in the playoffs. I told him IMHO no way two SEC teams get into the playoffs, thats why they went to the playoffs to keep that from happening.

One of the tie breakers is strength of SEC East opponents.  Auburn played Georgia and USC, apparently they would win that tiebreaker.  So they definitely need to lose today, one more team out of the picture.

But, Bama played Florida (who beat UGA and play USC next week and will likely win) and UT which beat USCe...   :dunno:
