Title: Somewhat of an Update on Cam Robinson
Post by: McBaman on October 27, 2014, 02:11:01 PM
Not much detail but at least Cam says it's "minor.."

"Minor setback" to "Several weeks" leaves a lot to the imagination.  :-\

Thanks for the update, albeit vague.

My guess, we won't see him until Auburn game.

The dreaded high ankle sprain. It seems common for 2 weeks out to turn into 4 with that injury.

Yeah, I've never seen a quick recovery from a high ankle sprain. I would think he is out 4 weeks, minimum.

Please I need help. What is this high ankle sprain and why do we keep coming up with it? Is there any exercise or strengthening thing for it? RTR!

Doesn't it depend on the severity of the sprain?
This involves ligaments, so the severity of the ligament tear or strain must be variable.
I don't stay at Holiday Inns, so I'm fishing for help here.

I didn't either, but I have heard the same thing. By the way, I am not sure the word "bit" is the correct word to use when discussing Cam.

I once heard that a high ankle sprain can be worse than a clean break.  I don't know why, though.  I'm just guessing that it's easier to immobilize bones so that they can mend than it is to try to get someone to not move their leg at all so that a sprain would heal faster.

Here ya' go: http://www.aofas.org/footcaremd/conditions/ailments-of-the-ankle/Pages/High-Ankle-Sprain.aspx

All you ever wanted to know about high ankle sprains (and then some, probably).  This part is not very encouraging:

As mentioned above, the recovery for high ankle sprains can take considerably longer than typical ankle sprains. In fact, it can take six to seven weeks before athletes return to play.

So he should be good-to-go for the playoffs?  #+

Not worse than a break of the ankle.

Actually, yes, in some cases, particularly with a high ankle sprain.  By clean break, I was referring to a simple fracture, as opposed to something where there are surgical issues involved.

sprain.
Fact: In many cases that’s true, but
some sprains, particularly high ankle
sprains, can be more severe and take longer
to heal than some simple fractures.
A high ankle sprain can leave you on the
sidelines for six to eight weeks.

Most types of ankle fractures require wearing a cast or boot for at least 6 weeks, and even longer to heal.  http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=a00391

Quote
Although most people return to normal daily activities, except for sports, within 3 to 4 months, studies have shown that people can still be recovering up to 2 years after their ankle fractures. It may take several months for you to stop limping while you walk, and before you can return to sports at your previous competitive level. Most people return to driving within 9 to 12 weeks from the time they were injured.

I think the Baylor site is marketing treatment of ankle sprains, but the use of "some simple fractures" seems somewhat disingenuous. Ligaments usually do take longer to heal than some simple fracture, and that might have been the point they were making.
