Title: Is Steve Spurrier calling it quits? Post by: Jamos on November 02, 2014, 07:57:44 AM As I watched the post game interview of Steve Spurrier this morning, I could only wonder if he is ready to call it quits as a coach. I know it was after a tough loss to a Tennessee team that his team should have beaten but the look on his face and the tone of his voice had that "I've had enough" message for everyone. His team had a big lead at home with less than two minutes left in the game but gave up two touchdowns to tie the game and then a field goal in overtime to lose it.
South Carolina is a team that you can never figure as a favorite to win a game for some reason. They can go on the road and are expected to lose but yet they win and then they can play at home and are expected to win and they lose. This has kind of been the way it has been for Spurrier and his career at South Carolina. They haven't always had the number of high ranked players that some of the SEC schools manage to recruit but Spurrier has managed to get enough of them to keep his team competitive but not win the big ones. He did have that one big victory though over a #1 Bama team, a game they were expected to lose but found a way to win. If he does decide to leave, college football will lose a good and very storied coach. He had a legacy at Florida that will never be forgotten. It seemed he always wanted to beat a team as badly as he could and then would make the remark of "if you don't want to lose so badly, then get better players." This statement created many rivalries while he was the coach at Florida. He has never had the success at South Carolina though that he had at Florida but he did manage to keep the already established rivalries that the Gamecocks had at a feverish level which is a given for him because he is Steve Spurrier you know. I may be jumping the gun a little with what I saw this morning and what I think of it, but Spurrier looked tired and very disappointed as he walked out of his post game interview without allowing any questions of the reporters. I think he was saying I've had enough, it's time to play more golf. JMO Title: Re: Is Steve Spurrier calling it quits? Post by: Chechem on November 02, 2014, 08:06:04 AM His retirement will be the end of the modern era of fast-paced football. His Florida teams had a passing game that rewrote the record books.
And we'll lose so much. Post by: 2Stater on November 02, 2014, 08:09:42 AM He is tired of his team folding like a cheap tent at the end of games. They had big leads against Mizzou, Kentucky and UT and big time blew it in all three of those. I would have the red azz too. :lol2:

Bwaaaahaaaaahaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Title: Re: Is Steve Spurrier calling it quits? Post by: Marshal Dillon on November 02, 2014, 10:28:36 AM He is 69 years old & he must know he is not the future of USC football. I think he is emotionally spent on this team & is just worn down from the disappointment of the season. They are 4-5 on the season.

Must count for something, huh? :dunno: Title: Re: Is Steve Spurrier calling it quits? Post by: McBaman on November 02, 2014, 12:04:32 PM I agree with Jamos' thoughts. Seems like all season CSS had kinda looked tired and not-as-interested in it all. Wouldn't surprise me if he hangs it up.

At the start of the season Spurrier said he wanted to coach till he was 75, pending good health. I think if he stays around another year & it implodes like this year, then I think he quits. :dog: Title: Re: Is Steve Spurrier calling it quits?
