Title: NCAA interviews businessmen re Boogers; breaking: NCAA also after Cam "bagman"
Post by: Chechem on July 20, 2011, 01:48:54 PM
"Thomas Buckelew, a tailor at Buckelew's Clothing for Men in Montgomery, Alabama, finds himself buffeted by allegations that he provided high-priced suits to Cam Newton at reduced costs. The very suits, you guessed it, that Newton wore at the Heisman ceremony. According to sources, Newton's suits, ties included, cost in excess of $4,000 each. NCAA investigator Jackie Thurnes was informed of this allegation, and the NCAA has spent time investigating its validity."

As long as the NCAA continues to investigate the barn all kinds of things will turn up. My guess is the NCAA is building a case against the barn like we have not seen since SMU. This is going to be fun to sit back and watch.

Finebaum talking with Danny Sheridan about Cam investigation now.  "NCAA investigating 2 major points":

1.  $$$ to Cecil's church.
2.  $$$ to Cam via a 3rd party ($180k to 200k).  Waiting for the "bagman" to step forward.

Sheridan just said, "NCAA thinks they know who the bagman was, and they're waiting for him to step forward".  Sounds like NCAA has sniffed out the guilty dirtbag (with no direct connections to Boogers) to handle their cash.

This is good stuff. The whole Cam thing stinks to high heaven. All the other barn issues, and there are many, will just be icing on the cake. Proving Cecil/Cam took money vacates everything they did last year.

Sheridan said the whole investigation of Cam was energized after Chizik smarted off to Lach.  "If the dots are all connected, the Heisman and NC will be taken from the Boogers."

Just want to add that Finebaum asked Sheridan about the credibility of his story.  Sheridan said, "My source is a 25-year voice at the NCAA."  Finebaum asked him to repeat the story several times from several angles (to clarify details).  Sheridan repeated it, saying basically that the NCAA has found much smoke and now think they have the fire.  They've followed the money and think they have the person who can spill the beans.

He repeated the 3 points: money to Cam; money to Cecil; money to the church.

Sheridan just summarized:

1. Chizik "revved up the investigation by his comments to Lach."
2. NCAA is looking at cash to the church, Cam, and Cecil through a bagman (3rd party).
3. Sources are his same NCAA sources for the past 2 decades.
4. "If NCAA connects the dots (50:50 right now on whether NCAA can prove it), Boogers will lose Heisman, NC, and get severely punished."

Did Sheridan say Cam and Cecil are not talking/cooperating with the NCAA? Or did I misunderstand? I just quickly heard this on a recap.

He was panicked.   ;D ;D
The barn keeps confusing the NCAA "OK" for Cam to play in January as a acquittal. The NCAA investigation began at that point, not concluded. But these DAs can't get it through their thick skulls that all the evidentiary procedure in Nov/Dec was comprised of, was the barns statement of fact for the record, and the preliminary ruling based solely on the barn's representation. Now it seems (as in Darryl's limited brain) they are confusing criminal proceedings and "double jeopardy" with an NCAA investigation.  Our CRS crack legal team can rewrite what this layman butchered but I am correct in my conclusions.

Too bad the onus is not simply on Cecil to show where he got the $$$ that magically appeared when his pay for play son enrolled at the barn. This is usually delivered with a bow wrapped around it by the IRS, but unfortunately this matter is cloaked in tax exemptions.

John-the-Booger just called in to thank Finebaum for making Sheridan relevant, because (he said) "I don't find Sheridan relevant."  He questioned how the NCAA could now investigate after finding no connection between the Boogs' boosters and Cam, plus Cam was punished for a day, so why can the NCAA start investigating now.

Then Tammy called in and I turned on the TV instead to listen to Steve Spurrier say he's opened the QB competition.  He also said Garcia is making a lifestyle change.

You should have listened to Tammy.  They actually had a drawn out conversation about whether or not she is wearing underwear.  FBomb actually said that he has been with her when she was not wearing any.

Here is a snippet from the article:

Quote
  • The NCAA investigation of Auburn ramped up after the Destin incident. Be careful what you wish for, Gene Chizik.
  • This is a quote from Sheridan: "As I understand it, the NCAA is trying to get an alleged 3rd person or bag man to come forward."
  • Sheridan reports that the investigation is all about Auburn and not about Mississippi State.
  • If the NCAA can put it all together, major sanctions will come along with vacation of the national championship and Heisman.
  • Sheridan closed by reiterating that the NCAA thinks it knows the "third party" who put up the money to pay for Newton's signature.

I remember the 60s.  Nobody at pop festivals wore underwear, and a lot of people in college didn't either.  :o

...And all of the girls back then looked a lot better than Tammy.

Capstone Report has the story now: Capstone (http://capstonereport.com/2011/07/20/report-ncaa-knows-auburn%E2%80%99s-bagman/12642/)

“There is a wealthy supporter of Auburn that is alleged in the NCAA’s eyes to have given Cam Newton’s father $180,000-200,000 of which a portion of that $20,000 or $30,000 went to repair their church,” Sheridan said on Paul Finebaum’s Radio Show.

I think they COULD be better, but the NCAA investigation of them will be a heavy burden.  I'll await their mental strength at handling it (as a team).

DD was the most negative poster of all time in the old tidesports forum.  He predicted a loss almost every week, but that was good because we usually won.  The opposite of his predictions took Bama all the way to a national championship.
