Title: Big 12 Making it Up As They Go Along
Post by: ALTideUp on December 01, 2014, 10:23:17 PM
In another post, I alluded to the Big 12 talking about naming Baylor and TCU co-champions to scam both teams into the playoffs. Now they are saying that they will let the CFP committee decide their champion for them and then they will name the other a co-champion to improve their bowl position if one doesn't get into the playoffs. Let the committee decide? They must have left their man parts in their other pants.

If you care to look into this, plan on going through it a few times. It is pretty bewildering.

Since when did head-to-head results not determine the champion? What a joke of a conference.

They'll have to start having a conference championship.
Right now they're pulling the ole 'Notre Dame trick' of not having to prove themselves to get top billing.

The Big 12 is the only conference among the Power 5 (ACC, SEC, Big Ten, Pac-12 and Big 12) that doesn't have a conference title game. Instead, the 10-team league uses a round-robin format to determine its champion. It's slogan, "One true champion," has been called into question now because of its willingness to declare Baylor and TCU co-champions.
"'One True Champion' is really about everybody playing everybody," Bowlsby said. "That's the right way to do it."

"We believe that playing everyone every year is the right way to determine a champion," he said, "even if ends in a tie."
Ummm, yeah, can someone explain how they can have "One true champion" while they are ready to name two teams as "co-champions?"   ???

Hopefully the committee bumps both of them out as a result, and rewards Ohio State the #4 position (if they win).  I'd love to play OSU in the Sugar Bowl.

I'd love to beat OSU 98-0 in the Sugar Bowl.  The question is, would Meyer's wife let him coach against Saban/Bama again?

The Big 12 needs to review the rules they put in place effective June 2014 and put it on the conference website.

Quote
The following procedure will determine the Big 12 Conference representative to the Sugar Bowl (or alternate College Football Playoff game when the Sugar Bowl is a semifinal) in the event of a first-place or alternate place tie (for the avoidance of doubt, only Conference records will be used throughout the process):

A. If two teams are tied, the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall be the representative.

I guess they are asking The Committee to read the Big 12 rules.  This is very dumb and they look dumb for not following their own rules.

Baylor should leave the conference.  I can't even imagine a school being disrespected like that by their own conference.

Baylor should file a lawsuit.  If they're not named the champion by the Big 12, and the rules are as clear-cut as stated above, then they've got grounds for millions and millions of $$$$.

Poor old Baylor has not won a conference championship since 1926 and when they finally do they are going to take it away from them.

I'm not sure but the REC might be doing this... :-\
