But, by the second bye week, coach Nick Saban confirmed his suspicions.

"He told me he didn't plan on redshirting me this year," Humphrey said Saturday, "but I was going to redshirt."

Per program policy, true freshmen aren't permitted to speak with reporters, but the SEC opens the locker rooms after the championship game. There, Humphrey was able to answer the questions that surrounded his freshman season at Alabama.

He said redshirting wasn't necessarily the plan when he arrived, "but coach knows what he's doing, so I have all the faith in him," Humphrey said in the celebratory Georgia Dome locker room....

Doesn't sound like he had any injuries.  He just never caught on to the (complex) defensive schemes in time to contribute.  We'll definitely need him next year!

I look for him to be a major factor in our defense next year.

Hope so.  If he can just knock down the lob, prayer passes ...  that would be plenty!

The biggest thing that Brown and Humphrey bring to the position is track star speed.  They can learn the schemes and techniques.  If they stay healthy, this could be the best CB duo we have ever had at Alabama.

If a team culture is solidifying in which even the very best recruits understand the player learning and develop process and accept that waiting for their time is both right for them and good for the team, then God help the rest of the CFP division. If that mentality is institutionalized here, we will become unbeatable.
