Title: What are the odds on Kiffin being back at BAMA next year?
Post by: lstephen on December 15, 2014, 03:45:40 PM
And, if he is, how much is the raise?

edit: I edited his name so you wouldn't get smart-ass answers.   :lol2:

It's looking like he'll return for 2015.

I don't know the odds, but I'd guess 70%.  More like 5% if he keeps cracking jokes about Coach Saban's height!

Pay raise?  Prolly to $1M.

I heard someone on the radio say he guaranteed Saban at least two years.

I think he would be smart to stay at least 2 years in order to salvage his rep & maybe get another HC job.

Think he'll be back in 2015 and maybe 2016.  I think he's rediscovering job satisfaction, i.e. he's having fun coaching again.  He's still young enough that he doesn't have to rush for another HC job.

As for his salary, as long as he's being paid by USCw his salary at Bama may be modest.  But it can't be too low for appearances sake.  Bump up to 1.0MM ( as Chechem said) sounds about right.

H e really needs to stay where he is and keep his mouth shut. Maybe after a few years he can learn under CNS guidance ...

He won't leave until he is offered another HC job, and probably not unless it is an HC job at a power 5 school.  If he is smart he will stay until CNS retires and soak up as much of the process as he can before moving on.

I'd say somewhere near 100% that he stays.  There's not an OC job in the country better than the one he has right now, unless Saban is making his life miserable.  I don't sense that's the case.  He's proven this year that he's still good at what he's good at - coaching and gameplanning as an OC.  After the debacles at UT and USC I doubt anyone is ready to give him control of their program yet.

I would not be surprised to learn, after all was said and done, that a very frank conversation occurred between the two men in which Saban said, "you stay four years and do a good job and avoid controversy and I will endorse you for any job in the country. But if you leave early or screw up, I won't". Which aCLK probably rightly took to mean, "I'll do what I can so that to see that you never coach above the high school level for the rest of your career".

More likely they discussed 2 years.  Bet you're right about the other details, though.

There is no thread on CRS in which your signature prediction is unwelcome or unappreciated. It's almost as universally applicable as "Roll Tide"

I don't know.  Saban isn't one to make threats.  He doesn't have to.   :lol2:
