Title: Another question for football discussion
Post by: hscoach on December 16, 2014, 09:41:16 AM
Do you think the offensive knowledge of Lane Kiffin has aided Bama's defense this year?   As we have seen LK is pretty good at attacking the weakness of a defense.

I think so. We are good in all areas except the Hail Mary. Probably because Kiffin doesn't run the Hail Mary in our offense.  :lol2:

I actually think his offense has put additional stress on our defense.  Many times he scores too quick and they have to go right back out there before they can catch their breath.  But now that we have survived the season with that additional stress we should be in very good shape for the playoffs.

It is hard to defense the Hail Mary unless you are in prevent.  The passes have been completed when Bama was not in a prevent defense.

Such an unfortunate circumstance.   :lol2:

When I played we looked forward to getting back onto the field.  I don't recall ever being too tired to play, and occasionally we played both offense and defense.  But that was high school.  Has the time clock made it exhausting?

It could possibly be said that Kiffin runs the Hail Mary play if Cooper would slow down a lot so the DB's could keep up with him...  8)

Most teams who run the spread/HUNH the defense understands they can go back anytime.

In a previous post I mentioned S&C and roster depth as our solution to the problem of defending the HUNH offense. It is also our solution to the problems caused by our own quick strike offense. Nevertheless, I bet those big guys on D still long for the days when they got to sip Gatorade and sit around for 15 minutes while MI and the Oline lumbered down the field to pound eventually pound it in.

You are absolutely correct about the depth.  I also am sure they love those 6 to 8 minute drives Bama puts together sometimes.
