Title: Re: Basketball at Arkansas Tonight Post by: Marshal Dillon on January 22, 2015, 08:32:07 PM We just can not get a big rebound. Arky got 3 shots before we fouled them. They hit 1 FT then Norris & Hale fight over rebound and Norris ends up traveling for turnover with 21.9 seconds left and Arky ahead 89-88. How do these crazy things continue to happen to Alabama late in games? So frustrating!!
Title: Re: Basketball at Arkansas Tonight Post by: Catch Prothro on January 22, 2015, 08:34:03 PM Shannon Hale ties the game with 8 seconds left with a 3-pointer.
Arky makes a put-back basket as time expires to win. Fitting that we lost on yet another second chance point for Arky. Arky 93 Bama 91 FINAL Title: Re: Basketball at Arkansas Tonight Post by: Marshal Dillon on January 22, 2015, 08:36:10 PM Tide loses ANOTHER game in last second of game. Arky 93 Tide 91 :'( >:( :wall: Title: Re: Basketball at Arkansas Tonight Post by: hscoach on January 22, 2015, 08:45:35 PM I only got to see little over half the game. My points: How does one team have 4 players foul out to the other 1? How do you allow Qualls to lower his shoulder knock his defender down and have a no call which he continues to score? I thought Ark got away with several travels.

His head is not in the game. I think we have been 1st, second, or third in fouls every year in the SEC under Grant. :dunno: Title: Re: Basketball at Arkansas Tonight Post by: Marshal Dillon on January 23, 2015, 12:07:23 AM The team #1 for fewest fouls per game is Wisconsin. #18 is LSU (best for SEC team). Hale had foot surgery this summer and was unable to practice. He was cleared to play just days before the season started. He is still not 100% and it has set him back badly. Title: Re: Basketball at Arkansas Tonight Post by: pmull on January 23, 2015, 08:51:34 AM I thought it was a great game. One of the best NCAA games I have watched this year. Too bad we came out on the short end. Rarely do you see a game with that many lead changes and ties.
Arky had several chances to bust this game open and Bama found a way to keep the game in reach. Arky was very physical around the basket and the refs let them play. I am OK with that if they call it the same on both ends but they did not. I give our players credit for not getting frustrated and keeping their heads in the game. I am also happy to see the subs and role players have to come in to a tight ball game and play quality minutes and contribute on both ends of the floor. We did not win the game so you can not be happy but I thought we got better in this game. We found a player in Coleman. I do not expect him to score 20 every night but he becomes a scoring option when he is in the game. After 5 SEC games I think we are in good shape. This was a difficult 5 game stretch. Four of those games were against top 50 RPI teams (A&M 47, UT 45, UK 1, Arky 22) and three of them were on the road. Now we get a chance to play two winnable games at home against Auburn (128) and Florida (76). I still like this team and think we can reach the NCAA Tournament. Title: Re: Basketball at Arkansas Tonight Post by: roll tide roll on January 23, 2015, 09:54:56 AM Tough loss for the Tide. The team fought back and played well in the second half.
BAMA shot poorly from in the first half, but made up for it in the second half. Ark's 3pt shooting was off their season average by 30% while BAMA nearly doubled their 3pt shooting production. This game was lost on the offensive boards. 21 - 8 in favor of Ark. BAMA ranks 257th in rebounding. There were two traveling calls against Ark that were not called. One was in the closing minute of regulation, and the other was on a drive in OT. The no-call in OT also could have been called a foul against Ark. I like the fact that BAMA attacked the basket more and that opened up the perimeter and allowed for some good looks. I do not understand why Grant had to call a TO immediately after an Ark TO with BAMA having possession. Norris traveled, but they should not have been fighting each other for the rebound. Blocking out on free throws needs to improve significantly, no excuse for a shooter to get his own rebound and score from the lane. If you are going to commit 29 personal fouls you need to block out. The remaining 3 games in January, and the first 10 days of February, are going to determine the season for this team. It will be nice to have the ODK trophy returned to Tuscaloosa on Saturday. Title: Re: Basketball at Arkansas Tonight Post by: ricky023 on January 23, 2015, 10:13:27 AM What do we do to get a winning attitude back in basketball? I ask because I don't get to see a lot of games but what I saw against arkansas seemed slow. If I am wrong please feel free to share with me. It seems we have some good talent but is it being used or are the players using what they have to win? RTR!
Title: Re: Basketball at Arkansas Tonight Post by: hscoach on January 23, 2015, 11:30:19 AM i thought Obasohan was a pretty good contributor last year. Why only 2 minutes last night?
Title: Re: Basketball at Arkansas Tonight Post by: pmull on January 23, 2015, 12:12:36 PM i thought Obasohan was a pretty good contributor last year. Why only 2 minutes last night? just a guess but I think the freshman guard Justin Coleman played so well he got Obasohan's minutes. Title: Re: Basketball at Arkansas Tonight Post by: hscoach on January 23, 2015, 12:39:17 PM i thought Obasohan was a pretty good contributor last year. Why only 2 minutes last night? just a guess but I think the freshman guard Justin Coleman played so well he got Obasohan's minutes. I thought that may have been a reason, overloaded position. I would think with his leaping ability he could give someone else a break for a few minutes. Title: Re: Basketball at Arkansas Tonight Post by: Jamos on January 23, 2015, 04:54:48 PM it was a tough loss last night and I agree pretty much with everyone's reasons of why they lost. I totally agree with the difference in offensive rebounds being a big reason for their loss. Arkansas was smart in slapping the ball outside after a shot and then they were coming up with all the loose balls and that is nobody's fault but the Bama players. Bama is a terrible rebounding team and I was always told that white boys can't jump, well there is only one white boy on that team getting any playing time.
It was a good game to watch as pmull stated and I think there can be some good come out of that loss for the team. I said I was concerned at how the team would react after the terrible loss at home to Kentucky and I will say now that I was very please with their effort. I think the team is progressing but they've got to find a way to win those close road games. The perimeter shooting was what I thought it could be at the first of the season and again it isn't one player trying to carry the load for the team on the offensive end. If Bama can learn to rebound, timely jumping and boxing out, I think they can finish strong. This is the best team that we have had since the early Mitchell and Green days and I hope the coaches can jump on this rebounding stigma and get it corrected because this can be the best team CAG has had since he's been there. Anyway the Barn comes to town Saturday night and they are nothing but a team that survives on momentum so Bama better be ready to control the pace of the game that suits them best and make Auburn play the way they want them to play. RTR!! Title: Re: Basketball at Arkansas Tonight Post by: Jamos on January 23, 2015, 05:28:57 PM Other than Hale, we looked better tonight than we have in a couple of years IMO. Riley Norris (true freshman) was lost & had several key errors. I am lost on what is wrong with Hale. Maybe Jamos has heard something. ??? I knew he had the injury but he doesn't play like he is affected by the injury, such as a limp. I think a lot of his problem is mental, more than once last night he had the open shot and passed them up, there was a long hesitation as he was looking at the shot rather than pulling the trigger. This is the same thing that Randolph was doing before this year. He also looks terrible on defense which is another story, he has no quickness with his feet and hasn't shown much ability to jump which could be caused by the foot issue. |
