A good start for Taylor Guilbeau who went 6 innings to get the win. He gave up 2 hits and struck out 7. Ray Castillo pitched the final three innings to get the save.

We had 11 hits including 4 doubles and 1 triple. Casey Hughston had 3 hits with 2 of them being doubles. Georgie Salem and Mikey White both had 2 hits. White's 2 hits included a triple. We also picked up 7 walks. We left 13 runners on base.

MES   0   5  1
Bama  6  11 0

We play Game 2 at 2:05 today. Junior Will Carter is the projected starter for Alabama at the Hoover Met.

I watched Guilbeau pitch the game against Troy in Pensacola last year. He has good stuff when his control is good. I look for him to be a real presence this season.

How good is Maryland Eastern Shore. Not good at all. They are Div I and play in the MEAC. Their record the last three years has been 13-35, 8-45 & 14-39.

This is a good opener for Bama. We get to see some new pitching and play against someone other than inter squad practice games. Regardless of who we are playing two opening weekend shutouts are impressive and we are swing the bats well.

Casey Hughston is off to a good start at the plate. He went 4 for 4 yesterday after going 3 for 5 in Game 1.

Hoover is a big ballpark by college standards. We won't hit many home runs. The outfield is spacious which will lead to a lot of doubles and even triples. The outfield gaps are huge compared to The Joe. SEC teams built for power could struggle there.

We play Game 3 today at 1:05 today.

I went to the basketball game yesterday. You can not go to Coleman Coliseum without noticing the construction going on at the baseball complex. It is far to early to tell much but it is going to be a very nice facility.

We do not have a mid-week game this week. Next up is a three game weekend series  at Houston.

Casey Hughston is knocking the cover off the ball. He went 4 for 4 again today. He had a double, triple, 5 RBI's and 4 runs scored. He went 11 for 13 in this series.

Quote
The Alabama offense erupted for 15 hits and 19 runs to complete the series sweep of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, 19-0, on Sunday afternoon. The win marks the first time the Tide has recorded three consecutive shutouts since March 7-9 of last season when UA blanked Mississippi Valley State in three games.

The offense was led by Casey Hughston once again with the sophomore recording a 4-for-4 day, including a double and triple, while adding five RBI and four runs scored.
