Title: Birmingham radio icon John Ed Willoughby has died Post by: Jamos on March 25, 2015, 06:40:48 PM Quote John Ed Willoughby, a Birmingham radio icon whose career spanned parts of five decades, died early this morning after a long illness. Mr. Willoughby was 80. Popular for his folksy wisdom and his quick-on-his-feet humor, Mr. Willoughby got started in radio as Tommy Charles' sidekick on Birmingham Top 40 station WSGN-AM in 1975. He "retired" 30 years to the day later, on April 15, 2005, but continued to host a Saturday morning sport-talk show with Doug Layton until 2012. http://www.al.com/news/birmingham/index.ssf/2015/03/birmingham_radio_icon_john_ed.html Title: Re: Birmingham radio icon John Ed Willoughby has died Post by: pmull on March 26, 2015, 09:44:01 AM TC and John Ed had a great AM talk radio show in B'ham before talk radio was cool.
