Nope,

Waiting on NCAA to clear him.  University is at a stalemate.

That is what I suspected.  Where did you get the letter?  There has to be a story behind that.

Its a long story.

Try to make it short.  I have a relative on staff and a friend that is retiring from the navy.  I talked to Coach Saban's secretary and asked that Coach Saban write a congratulatory (sp) letter for his retirement ceremony.

Coach Saban carried around a tablet and drafted the letter himself as the words came to him.  He took the time to make sure it was perfect.  His secretary had to redate it two or three times because he wanted to sign it on the exact date the letter was typed.

He sent several historical team items.

His wife said this is the best gift he will ever get in his whole life.

The email I sent to coach sabans secretary was the following:

Mrs. Leoni,

My name is Chief Petty Officer Jay xxxx.  I am currently stationed at the United States Test Pilot School in Patuxent River Maryland.  On 2 September 2011.  Chief Petty Officer  xxxx  will be retiring here in Maryland.  He is an Alabama resident and a HUGE Alabama fan.  It is customary for the President, Governor, and Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy to send letters to the retiring service members; As Chief Presley's best friend, I know that A letter from Coach Saban would top all of these Gifts.  Although we live several hundred miles from Tuscaloosa, we managed to attend nine games last year...Alabama football is Second to only God and Family in Chief xxxx's book. I am attaching a request on command letterhead with our official mailing address.  Please do not hesitate to call or email with any further questions.

Very respectfully,

Jay  xxxx

for anybody who thinks Coach Saban is an insincere person..YOU ARE TRULY WRONG.

here is what the letter said...will not post it because of names.

Dear CPO xxxx,

I am extremely honored and only too pleased to offer my sincere congratulations on your retirement from the United States Navy.  You have served your contry with pride and distinction and performed to the highest standards of the military profession.  I am happy to be a part of this huge milestone....

Like the United States Navy, the proud tradition of the Alabama Crimson Tide is among the richest in college football lore.  Since the first squad "rolled" (typed in crimson) on the field in 1892, the name "Alabama" has stood for pride, tradition,, and a commitment to excellence.  It is this same pride, tradition and commitment to the defense of oru great nation that has sustained you during your twenty-four years of selfless service.  May you continue to find challenge and reward in the years ahead.

On behalf of the Alabama Crimson Tide, it is a privilege to extend my deep appreciation for your years of loy and dedicated service.  Please accept my heartfelt thanks and congratulations...along with a bit of bama history

He has a person on his staff that does nothing but search electronic media for several hours a day.

He says he doesnt read it...but hes briefed on it every day.

He then had the team make a jersey with his last name and the #24, the number of years he served.  He also got an autographed football from the entire staff and mal moore.  I will present it to him at his retirment ceremony.

His wife said this is the best gift he will ever get in his whole life.

Maybe that staff member should sign up here and post something to refute the rumors that come up.  :D

I gave a player's dad 1000 e-creds the other day when he signed up.  How many should we give to someone who is confirmed as being on staff?  10,000? 1 million?  What say ye CRS?

It seems like it should be a little bit higher relative to a player's dad.  Maybe 1500?

By the way, pmull will catch up to Kuiyam pretty soon, so it is still within reach I think.

That was awesome for you to think like that chief, and awesome for CNS to do that. To me, its just more evidence of how much class this man has. By the way, I saw where you are stationed in Maryland is that right? I used to live in the Laurel area for about 2 and a half years, worked both in Columbia and Towson.
