Title: New Auburn DC Muschamp Making Mark on Defense (Maybe Negatively)
Post by: Marshal Dillon on May 15, 2015, 08:34:15 PM
Either Muschamp is so hard he is running guys off or Ellis Johnson was a complete idiot. Probably the 2nd reason.

Moncrief told the Montgomery Advertiser he may transfer to a school in the ACC.

Depth is a big concern in Auburn's secondary. Five players out of Auburn's secondary have left the team since the end of the 2014 season. Cornerback Kamryn Melton announced Thursday his intention to transfer from Auburn. Defensive back Joseph Turner was granted a release Friday as well. Turner did not play last season.

There is no way to spin it to make all the transfers a good thing but the reality is Auburn has been terrible on defense and big changes are needed. Muschamp has proven to be a good DC but even the best coaches need good players.

I think Auburn has let the recruiting services do the player evaluations for them since Tuberville was coach. They recruit on the defensive side of the ball by stars. They have not recruited players that fit their scheme and have not been able to develop them. I do expect the Auburn defense to improve under Muschamp but they have a long way to go and I do not know if it can be fixed quick.

I also think practicing against the spread zone read offense hurts the defense. It is hard to find a good defense on a team that runs that offense. Just look at the Big 12 defenses.

This is the reason this kid failed. He felt entitled & couldn't separate high school football from college football.

Hey MD I think this the problem with the biggest majority of these guys. They were getting all the gurls and glamour  >:( in high school and they come to the SEC and find out your not what you made your own mind believe you are. Gut check time. RTR!
