Title: Softball: Tuscaloosa Regional
Post by: pmull on May 16, 2015, 07:21:26 AM
Alabama runs rules Fairfield 8-0 with a walk off winning run in the 6th inning. Littlejohn pitched a 2 hit shutout. We will play Washington in the winners bracket at 11:00 this morning. I expect Osorio in the circle today.

Quote
Alabama opened NCAA Regional play on Thursday with an 8-0 shutout over Fairfield in six innings, advancing to play Washington on Saturday.

Alabama (43-12) was strong offensively from top-to-bottom, as everyone in the lineup reached base safely while eight of the nine starters would earn at least one base hit. Demi Turner went 4-4 out of the leadoff position, tying her own season high for hits set earlier this year against Pacific on Feb. 15. Her four hits are the most for any Tide player in a game this season. Three of the Tide's eight runs were scored courtesy of the long ball, as Danae Hays hit a towering two-run shot in the third inning and Haylie McCleney slapped a solo homer in the fourth.

Tide starter Sydney Littlejohn (16-1) turned in a masterful performance in the circle as she held Fairfield (25-23) to just two hits while not issuing a single walk and throwing 45 of her 62 pitches for strikes. Fairfield starter Lauren Falkanger (11-12) was chased after 4.0 innings, allowing six runs on 10 hits while reliever Destinee Pallotto was credited with two runs allowed.

It is not on TV. You can get the SECN+ feed on your computer if your internet provider allows it.

Alabama run rules Washington 9-0 in 5 innings. Alabama advances to the finals tomorrow. Alabama will only need one more win but the team that advances to play Alabama tomorrow must beat us twice. We are in very good shape to advance to the Super Regionals.

Any word on the other side of the bracket for the Super Regionals?  Is it looking like Oklahoma?

Oklahoma beat Texas A&M yesterday 7-5 with a walk off HR in the 7th. They are in the regional final 1 win away from advancing.

Wow.  A&M is one of our best teams.  Hope they come back.

A&M finished 8th in the SEC with a 12-12 record.

A&M has to play Lehigh today. That elimination game was ppd yesterday due to weather. If they beat Lehigh they still have to beat Oklahoma twice. Tough road for the Aggies.

Alabama plays Washington today at 12:00. If we win we advance. If Washington wins we will play a second game and the winner of that game advances.

No TV is called for on rolltide.com but ESPN, SECN & ESPNU has been covering all the games with their Bases Loaded program that bounces from game-to-game.

Wow! I didn't see any of the games, but it sounds like our ladies really took care of business in a big way this weekend.

There is no doubt that the team that we watched play this weekend is the team that we all thought this team could become. The team was hitting on all cylinders and showed that they can play at a higher level, something that wasn't present in the SEC tournament . It was really good to see them excited with their level of play and hopefully all of this momentum will take them to Oklahoma City and they will bring home another NC trophy.  #+

How many SEC teams are in the super regionals?

There are 8 SEC teams out of a total of 16 teams in the super regionals.

7 out of the 8 super regionals have an SEC team.  (Kentucky plays Florida in one.)

Here is the schedule:   http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2015/05/ncaa_softball_super_regional_g.html

That means there is a good chance that there could be another all-SEC NCAA final again...  #+ #+

Shoot!  I was hoping for an all SEC World Series.  :lol2:  7 out of 8 is pretty good though.

Seven out of eight teams in the NCAACWS is very possible.  It will take some extremely good luck and outstanding play but definitely in the relm of possibility...

I think we have the determination and talent to take it all  this year. One thing for sure we know they are going to give it their best effort and that is what it is all about. RTR!
