Title: DeAndrew White
Post by: Catch Prothro on August 08, 2011, 09:22:42 AM
I have been hearing a lot about this Bama redshirt freshman receiver lately.  First, Kirk Herbstreit (after watching Bama's practice) singled out White as possibly Bama's big play threat in the receiving corps.  (This was on ESPN's College Football Live).  Herbstreit said that White had incredible speed (White was a Texas State track champion), great hands (caught a lot of awkward body passes easily) and ran precise routes.

Saban and McElwain also have been praising White in early practices.  http://alabama.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1248744

Anyone seen this guy in practice?  Apparently, any talk of Duron Carter taking over Julio's spot could be premature.

Yes, I am hearing the same thing too.  I saw in one report where he was practicing with the 1st string guys on three receiver sets.  Did anybody go to the practice yesterday?

What about a KR, or PR? I wonder if he can fill one of those spots? RTR!

Good idea, especially since Dee Hart is injured.

I'm sure a lot of them are getting a close look. Bradley Sylve's name keeps popping up for return duties, if for no other reason than his KO return run back in the UA All-American game.

We entertained a couple HS football buddies of mine and their wives this weekend. We were talking college football. One said, "We (WVU) don't get very many five stars". I bit a hole in my tongue holding back.

I always start my comments about Bama or WVU with, "I know y'all don't follow football much but..." Every time, they fall in the trap of saying WVU follow football more than most. Then I start with the attendance stats on our spring games, follow up with the number of hours per day I spend on this site or sports radio, then move on to email alerts from Scout or Rivals, etc. I just keep going until finally one of them says "Uncle".

The argument this weekend was some recruit they both knew about. I switched the argument from 'how great this guy is' to 'why are you second tier schools still trying to fill your roosters 6 months after NSD'? First they had to ask what NSD was, then they realized when I am talking recruiting now, it is the class of "2012" or "2013", not "2011". Anyway, it is a whole different world.

Maybe White is the guy that can outrun the coverage and McCarron drops the bomb to.

Its always amazing how much we take for granted in this part of the country when it comes to college football. The majority of people in the South are so well versed in the sport that it is a great surprise to run across someone who does not know so much about it. While I was in Maryland I constantly ran across people that could not intelligently talk about college football (although the talked non-stop about the NFL. I guess it never occurred to them where all those players came from).

1. Julio mention De White beofre he left.

2. Saban mentioned De White in the latest press conf. ( with about four "relative to the process" references).

3. Sims mentioned passing to "White, Hanks and Maze."

White is definetly getting some "pub" time.

Brandon Gibson also mentioned White in Gibson's recent interview posted on Tidesports, saying he "looked up to" White in some ways even though he was younger.
