Title: Alabama preseason practice report Day 5
Post by: pmull on August 09, 2011, 04:00:09 PM
Alabama wore full pads for the first time in preseason practice signaling full contact for the Crimson Tide. To be fair, Sunday's practice was pretty physical with shoulder pads and shorts at Bryant-Denny Stadium. But today was the first opportunity for real hits. Alabama coach Nick Saban will meet with the media later this afternoon.

Good story.

A group of 16 people from Nutely (N.J.) High were invited to watch part of Tuesday's practice. Three adults and 13 students - mostly football players - paid their own way to come to Tuscaloosa and help with tornado recover efforts.

"It was some pretty tough stuff what the tornado did," Nutely coach Steve Digregoril said. "It looks like there's a lot of work to be done. I give these kids a lot of credit coming down, painting fire hydrants and cutting down trees. They worked pretty hard for the last four days. It's a little icing on the top to be here at practice. It's pretty special." The group was forged by Nutely assistant J.D. Vick, a Tuscaloosa native, who was in town April 27 when a killer tornado ripped the heart of the town.

The group has worked in Alberta City among other areas, and has become more attached to Tuscaloosa through their volunteer work. The rewards also have been sweet with some unique experiences with Dreamland Bar-B-Que, sweet tea, grits and some real home Southern cooking.
