Title: Sims carries quiet confidence
Post by: pmull on August 10, 2011, 08:36:47 AM
"I think I'm a pretty accurate quarterback, strong arm, pocket passer. I think I fit real well in our system as a pro-style offense ... I mean, we have great athletes here, like Marquis Maze and Darius Hanks and DeAndrew White and guys like that," Sims said. "Getting the ball in those guys' hands is a quarterback's dream. So you get the ball out of your hand and into their hands as fast as possible."

Sims performed well in scrimmage work during the Crimson Tide's spring practice, but has yet to throw his first college pass. But a major reason for his confidence is not only a belief in self, but a belief in his teammates.

"Our offensive line has the potential to be one of the best units in the country this year," Sims said. "Barrett Jones, Vlachos, older guys we have are really going to bring some leadership to the offense as a whole, not just the offensive line."

Sims said running back Trent Richardson, among the Southeastern Conference's leading returning rushers, is also a factor that will help keep UA's quarterback in manageable situations.

Here's another article on Sims from The Annistion Star.

Quote
Outsiders have seen very little of what he’s done in Alabama’s camp, but what we saw looked good. The redshirt freshman showed in Alabama’s A-Day game that he’s at or near equal in the ways sophomore AJ McCarron is good and better as a scrambler.

The right-handed Sims scrambles not to tuck and run but to buy time in the pocket. That could matter to a team that lost its starting left tackle from last season and the heir apparent when Aaron Douglas died.

And as for McCarron’s extra time in the program, Alabama offensive coordinator Jim McElwain seemed to minimize that edge during his annual Fan Day chat with media Sunday.

I/We have been talking about our AA OL like it is a done deal but the most important factor in the equation hasn't been named yet. CNS and CJP keep moving guys all around (every summer it seems--both OL and DL). I guess they are developing depth in case of injuries during the season. But I sometimes wish we had the whole line established and getting millions of reps as they will be in our opener.

I guess I'll just let CNS decide. :-X
