Title: Little League Coach is gonna make my head explode.
Post by: MLB10 on March 09, 2011, 08:02:27 PM
Ok, let me start off by saying that for 6 years my husband has been a coach of at least 1 little league team.  Some years there were 2 teams plus private lessons on the side.  He's a catcher and he is paid to give private catching lessons.   This year there is just too much on his plate to do little league.  We got drafted by a coach who is famous for laying down on his back on first base and flailing his arms and legs like a stuck turtle over a disagreement over a call.  This season so far (1 game in) he has:

1)been so disorganized that our first scrimmage game consisted of THREE field changes.  I have 3 kids to carry around and I was not amused.
2)skipped over the best batter in the lineup and messed up the batting order causing us to lose a run since the other team noticed it.  UNACCEPTABLE.  Had the nerve to argue with the ump over his own screw up.
3)won't take my husband up on his offer tohelp to the catcher FOR FREE though the older kids dads PAY my husband $$$ to do it...and oddly enough the director at the game last night told the coach he needs to work with the catchers because they are woefully unprepared.

So I am getting keyed up.  Yes, I appreciate the time he is putting in, but NOT THE EFFORT.  He is half doing his job and we are paying $300 for THIS???

Tonight I just had enough.  We had an optional practice in the boonies.  I drove my 3 kids out there.  About an hour in my bladder was killing me and there was of course no bathroom.  My 2 younger kids are in the car and I am entertaining them with an I phone.  Stress levels are rising.  I sat there and watched as my son and another boy were told to go sit and wait for someone to help them.  They waited 15+ minutes.  They could have been stretching, rolling ground balls to each other.  NO, just sitting.  Meanwhile there are THREE coaches trying to help one kid and they really are just in a too-many-cooks-in-the-kitchen situation.  I have never EVER said anything to a coach.   I went and asked him why my kid and another have been sitting down for 15 minutes while it takes 3 grown men to help 1 kid.  I told him he is wasting my time.  I seriously can't take this foolishness.  It is way too early in the season for this crap.  I'm just so ticked off that we paid $300 and his instruction sucks and he can't manage AT ALL...he doesn't understand how to secure practice fields and how to run a baseball practice.  He is keeping my first grader out until 7+o'clock at night and he's sitting down?  How about you just run a good 1 hour practice where everybody is actually doing something the whole time.

UGHHHHH.

thanks, man... preshate it.

This is my oldest son's first time out of T-Ball and also the last chance we were giving to him either love it or leave it.  It frustrates me because he won't improve and start having more fun with long, boring practices that STILL result in lossses (also not fun).  He needs to be in some physical activity and baseball isn't a contact sport so I'm all for it...

I remember our early practices being anything but boring ...
somebody needs to learn how to run a practice sounds like to me .
it's supposed to fun , tough but fun . kids like to learn stuff about the game and play it .

not trying to be mean ... but
this guy might do better to put on the movie "Sandlot" and let the kids learn from that .
I have a copy   :D

One of the directors told my husband (also a director) that he thinks my hubby will end up having to take over the team.  There are already complaints.  One of the kids uncles played for the Phillies and his mom does not play.  I've seen her complaining numerous times already...but instead of doing it to the coach's face like I did she went to the league president.

sounds like ya'll have a handle on it
sure hate to bad mouth any Coach but some just aren't good as others
maybe this guy should be a assistant for awhile then try it again ?

I still talk to two of my Coaches regularly till this day
and talk to a couple sometimes that Coached other teams I played against
those guys helped me when I needed it the most and I was lucky to have them .
and that's what a kid needs if you know what I'm saying  ...

good luck
