Title: What if Kent State had never invested in Nick Saban?
Post by: pmull on August 10, 2011, 11:50:06 AM
Capstone Report has an interesting article about the time Coach Saban spent at Kent State as a player and GA.

Quote
“Coach James asked me to come and be a graduate assistant coach; I had no intentions of being a coach. Terry had another year of school, we couldn’t move anywhere. So I decided, ‘Yeah, I’ll just be a GA here and do this stuff and get a graduate degree’ and I really didn’t want to go to school.”

Long story short, this is a story of investment. Don James and Maury Biebent, invested in the life of a young Nick Saban. Without them, according to Bama’s head coach, he probably wouldn’t be in coaching today.

“I would say those people had a tremendous impact on me, and there were a lot of academic people there that did the same. So there’s a lot of memories, but most of them are relationships. And most of them are people that were involved in that experience.”

A million dollar pay day is a great way to pay your alma mater back.

There are so many "what ifs" in the success of someone and Sabans story is no different. Just think, down at Auburn, all they say is what if Bama didn't have a football team.  :D

Well if Kent State hadn't invested in CNS then they wouldn't have anything to brag about. RTR!

For the $ Kent State gets they should have to wash cars at Bryant Hall before they leave town.

Or, hate to be a Debbie Downer here, but what if AJ had've just moved the ball into kicking range.  So many "what if's" just comes down to luck.  Oh, and remember Cody's blocks?

I guess you are predicting 28-0 then, huh?  Perhaps... but I think we get more than 28 points.  And I don't see them scoring on our D.  Special teams... maybe.  Pick 6... maybe.  But 0 points against the D.  You can blee dat.

I don't think there's anyway he'll be able to accomplish that unless the players just don't perform.  Teams are supposed to make a big improvement from week 1 to week 2, and Coach will not jeopardize his team's benefit to help Kent State.
