I loved listening to him on the radio announcing Bama games :( My favorite pep rally of all time was back in 1971 when he stood on the Library steps to welcome everybody "Across Alabama and across the nation", the band played "Patton", and we ended up all going to the practice field to cheer the team before the USCw game. :( Title: Re: "Alabama radio legend Doug Layton dies at 81" Post by: ricky023 on July 16, 2015, 08:26:43 AM When I hear the name Doug Layton it reminds me of the WVOK radio days. They use to be the best radio station ever. Listen to their music and Alabama football was so much great back then. I remember the Summer Shower of Stars every year at the Auditorium. RTR!
